The Canon HV20 is just so lovely. by harvurd | Apr 13 '07 Pros: HD ability, manual controls, stunning video quality, accessory shoe (for external mic, video light)
Cons: Some pieces may feel a little cheap to some, but to me they felt fine.

Thanks for posting your thorough review on this brand new model. I have an HV-20 on order ($999 no tax or shipping) and glad to see someone other than C-Net with an opinion (theirs is wrong, it will auto white balance without stopping and starting recording). You clearly convey that there is no comparison between HD and regular resolution video. Have you tried HD tapes (Sony, JVC) and if so, do they offer any improvement over regular mini-DV media? How is the still photo working out for you? This seems to be thee best camcorder for mainstream consumers who have made the switch to HDTV. It doesn't appear to have spartan features, just limited to the useful ones. The cinema and 24 modes being independently controlled is promising and I like how you described it. I look forward to reading more of your reviews and any other experiences you care to share with this camcorder.
