I Used To Think I Was Smart.... (Reply to this comment)
by maceywuesthoff
Until I read this review. Now I'm questioning my own intelligence because, I knew your review was well written, but I was having trouble following. This is the first review of yours I've read, but if my opinion counts for anything, you strike me as a very good writer, albeit your writing style is above my head. I also give kudos to any individual not afraid to speak his/her mind, and you assuredly are one of those individuals. I strive to be the same way, though I'm not always successful. Peace be with you, keep up the good work, and best of luck in all of your writing endeavors.
Best,
Macey (maceywuesthoff)

Classy of you as usual, Markham.... (Reply to this comment)
by Bonies7
Markham,
Although I departed the site many moons ago, I still stop by regularly to read a couple of my favorite writers - and you, Sir are at the top of my list.
Why?
Because your reviews shine brightly - whether the subject be books or liquor. And your reviews carry that professional edge to them - the edge that I always thought needed to be published on a much greater stage....such as Esquire.
You are the Dean of writers here, and I am deeply flattered to be mentioned by you in this classy tribute.
As I have said to you many times online.....
BRAVO...!

Well, Randomkill, if I could, I'd bestow the Most Helpful on you, but since I can't, I'll just have to stick with a Very Helpful.

I agree, he must have simply missed mentioning mshawpyle.
How could he forget someone who has again and again been one of the people I consider one of the most eloquent and sensible personages on this site?

MSP (Reply to this comment)

You are the living definition of the phrase a gentleman and a scholar but including me with such great folks is cause for alarm - have you bumped that noggin lately? Or maybe it's just panic from watching the Astros too often. (Ahem.) Thanks, and a tip of the cap from here on the West Coast.

And MSP (Reply to this comment)
by counsel
Whose name has not appeared in a separate essay dedicated to him, not because of lack of merit, but because no one has sufficient command of the language to include all the proper superlatives required to adequately describe his contributions herein.
And I know this, because I was wondering yesterday how I would properly ensconce your name in the HoF. I trust that someone better qualified than I will do this, and soon, I hope.

My only quibble being that you left yourself off that most deserving list. To do so would be a crying shame.

You made my day (Reply to this comment)
by gracef
But I really don't believe that my name belongs on the same list as those other folks. There's just no way I'm in the same class!
I don't need to be in the HoF anyway. Having your respect is more precious to me than any tag or title that Epinions could ever give me.
Now you, on the other hand, deserve all manner of recognition. You're a truly special man.

Very nice work there, Squire, but I am compelled to remind you that I have, in the past, bet on baseball and am therefore ineligible. (I bet on the Rangers to beat the Yankees, and that kind of foolishness ought not to be rewarded.)
Still, pleasant company in that there pantheon, and interesting to reflect that so many of those there enshrined have left the chapel of St. Nirav's and are toiling in other, better, (and one would hope) more productive parishes.

Excellent work as usual, Markham. So nice to read you again, and on a topic for which you are most suited to write. Thanks.

Some fine epinionators on this list. My own list would have some of these same names, and maybe yours two for never dumbing down your reviews no matter how low the bell curve sinks (even if it makes slackasses like me have to break out the OED from time to time to figure out what the HELL you're trying to say!)
This Chimay's for you!

It was all readin' right good and purty til I stubbed my mental big toe on the appearance of MY silly damned name in yonder list of "Most Deserving Folks."
Now, if'n ya scrubbed out MY name and added instead another certain survivor of the "Great Chuy's Booth Debacle," I think you'd be right on target.
Always fun to see words from you, sir, especially in support of a cause so noble and worthwhile.
