I received an item ordered by my in-laws from Lamps Plus as a wedding anniversary gift (http://www.lampsplus.com/products/s_plaque-wall/66492/). It was delivered by UPS on a Friday and I opened the box on the Sunday, two days later.
I was shocked to find, as the plaque was lifted from the box, that many part of the details within the frame were broken. More than 30% of the detailing of the plaque had broken off during transit. This is no fault of Lamps Plus and the blame/responsibility is directed at UPS who handled shipping. The condition of the outer box indicates that the boxed item was dropped on one end which would account for the irreparable damage.
I have spoken to Lamps Plus and requested that the sender, my in-laws, receive a refund. This will be honored and initially, the Customer Service person was going to send me a return label but common sense kicked in and she said not to bother. This makes sense because the item is beyond repair and no-one would put this up on a wall. In fact, if Lamps Plus had received the item back, it would simply just go in a dumpster anyway.
So, I shall be calling my in-laws today to break the news (no pun intended) about the wedding anniversary gift and remind them to check for a refund.
The lesson learnt from this shopping experience is not to order fragile items that ship from the other side of the country. I do not live near a Lamps Plus store so purchasing this in-store was not an option.
Also, there is no description of the material for the plaque but it appeared to be wood. The damage to the plaque made it absolutely clear that the plaque is made of some plastic which is very hard and inflexible. The description of the item would have been better with inclusion of the material used in the plaque.
I cannot comment on the ease of ordering or about shipping costs because the item was ordered as a gift by someone else.
