I love this site. I love this site. I LOVE THIS SITE.
Did I mention I love this site?
I Love This Site
A friend sent me a link to Half.com back in February, and I sort of tucked it away for a little while. But soon, I thought to myself, "Hmm... you know, Jessie, you could use a little extra cash." So off I went to explore Half.com and see what could be sold there.
As A Seller
As a seller, Half.com is great. My whole family reads a lot, so we have a basement full of books that are just sitting and collecting dust, that may never ever be read again, and will probably just go for a quarter each at a garage sale somewhere. Over the past six months, I've sold over fifty books and made over $200 and counting. It's really easy to use - you just type in the ISBN number found on the back of the book (or the UPC from the back of your VHS or DVD -- you can also sell computers, electronics, trading cards, and oodles of other stuff), put in the condition, and name the price you're willing to sell it for and poof! There it is, for all of the Half.com users to browse and buy. Half.com charges a small amount of commission which they take out of the money they send to you - but only AFTER your item sells, unlike their mother site, eBay.com, which charges you a listing fee and takes a commission out of your item. Half.com sends you a check either monthly or bimonthly, depending on how much you sell, with a little stipend for shipping included. They even have free direct deposit, where you get paid every two weeks, no matter how much you sell.
As A Buyer
As a buyer, Half.com is amazing. You can find almost any book you want, out of print or in print, and usually for a great price as well. And the best part? If you order a book you didn't really enjoy, you can right back up on Half.com and make your money back - cause you bought it for five bucks instead of twenty five. ;)
I had been looking for two out of print books for months - looking on eBay and Amazon. I hadn't looked at Half.com for some reason though, and when I did, I was pleasantly surpassed to find both the books sitting there patiently for me to purchase them. The books totaled over $20 in value - with shipping, both of these out of print books cost me only about $12. Awesome! But the best part - when I got one of the books a few days later, my boyfriend was looking through it as I went to read the rest of my mail. After a few minutes he looked up at me and said, "Jessie... I think you should look at what is written on the first page." I immediately was disappointed, thinking that I had been sent some book with writing all over it when it had been advertised as "Like New." So I opened the book and looked at it and there was a signed sketch by the author. I was amazed! The book retails for $9.00. It was OOP (out of print) at the time I bought it, for $4.00 with $2.00 shipping. What a gem!
If you have a love for used book stores and a love for eBay, you'll love this crazy combination of both.
