Though I was sure it would be my two-year-old daughter who totaled my digital camera, my husband ended up being the culprit. So with Easter and all of its photo opportunities impending, I frantically researched a new one. The one I fell in love with was available at the lowest price at Buydig.com, a site I had never heard of before but seemed to get overall pretty good reviews on Epinions. So I took a chance. They offered a free shipping option (7-10 days), guaranteed a new (not refurbished) product with original warranty, provided lots of details about my camera, and offered the lowest price.
The basics
I thought I had heard of all of the big electronics sites, but this one was off my radar until this month. They sell cameras, printers, TVs, DVD players, audio devices (MP3 players, satellite radio), telephones, computer equipment, and even blenders and watches.
My experience
I went to this site looking for digital cameras so I didn’t stray much that first time. But I have looked for LCD TVs on the site since then and poked around a bit in the other categories. The site is well laid out and I haven’t had any problems with page loads or navigation. The search filters allowed me to refine my results by manufacturer, category, and price and there are several ways of accessing products (side menu, header menus, top and bottom search fields, last visited pages drop-down menu).
The level of detail and package deals displayed on the product page drew me in. There are tabs for Money Saving Packages (bundled groups of accessories), Recommended Accessories, Product Description (which listed all the specs I needed and more), What’s in the Box, and Rebates & Promotions. Everything I wanted to know was a mouse click away. I questioned whether I needed to buy a separate battery charger and was able to click on What’s in the Box to find out that it’s included. I read through the Money Saving Packages (there were five for my camera) and decided I just needed the memory card. But the prices and savings are next to each bundled listing and I considered a couple of them. From the Recommended Accessories (a very comprehensive list including an extended warranty, memory cards, printers, and cleaning products), I quickly compared the memory card options (and prices) and chose the one I thought best fit my needs. The Rebates section quickly answered my question about possible extra savings (in my case, I would’ve had to purchase an additional printer, which I didn’t). After reading about my new camera on several sites, I still had some questions and all of them were answered here. To me, that’s a good indicator of a good site.
Many items have a free shipping option. That’s what I chose once I was sure which camera I wanted. It says it will take 7-10 days and I received an e-mail saying that because of the pre-Easter holidays (Passover, Good Friday) items would be delayed. I worried that I wouldn’t get my camera in time for my family’s get-together. Amazingly, I got the box in three days. I ordered on Tuesday and had it in my hands on Friday. When I checked the return address, I noticed that the company is in Edison, NJ, which is only about an hour away from me. That may explain the speed but I was still happy that the package left their premises so quickly. Often when you pick the free shipping option, your package ends up getting low priority when leaving the store. The brown box arrived by FedEx and required a signature. My new camera and the memory card were both neatly tucked inside in their original packaging. A detailed receipt and return form were enclosed as well.
I’ve had the camera and memory card for two weeks now and have used them many times already. Both work fine and I’m very pleased with my shopping experience with Buydig.com.
Overall
I will definitely shop at this site again. I was pleased with their holiday shipping speed, liked the level of information provided on the site and the package options, and have no complaints about the products I purchased (digital camera and high speed memory card).
