The Bottom Line Just go!
I know a few of you are anxiously awaiting what transpired on a few subjects at the meeting, so I'ma go over those first then get to the par-tay. heh. Phil pretty much told you all already about the donation thang. Nirav likes the idea.. but the charities he's contacted so far require a guaranteed minimum. He can't do that. He's working on it. Express reviews ~ Here to stay. Deal with it. Here's the thing.. they have a two-fold purpose. One is so the aggregate star rating counts.. if put with the other reviews it would be SH (most, not all) and not count in the over-all stars. The other, and most important reason, is so new folks can stick their foot in the door without getting immediately slammed and scared off. I agree with that. They can post their first attempts and get shows, which will hopefully encourage them to look around and discover that they can write a full review. They can practice in the express lane, and slowly ease in to the main stream relatively unscathed if they like. Shopper accounts ~ Again, it's all about aggregate star ratings. These accounts will soon stop flooding the just in section and be with the express reviews. I'm satisfied. Too Damn Funny To NH Buttons ~ We've all joked about this needing to be added.. I think Sarah is going to actually try to get it done. Seriously, as a consumer, after reading tons of dry over-long boring reviews would you not like an option to stumble across one that is hilarious even if it may be off topic? I would. So would Smoking-gun and some others here.. Get after it Sarah! Poor Andy got hammered by me about the Alert glitch.. there were a few times I think he wanted to run, but we wouldn't let him. heh. He's so cute and just.. lively! Nirav looks about 19 years old. I swear! The guy just never stops smiling and can seriously take a joke. I know it's popular to rag on the guy, but I have to stand up and say I like him, damn it. He did not pull any punches with me on anything. If it was no, then it was no... no matter how much I harangued him. He did not hem and haw. He was very open and personable. He was also paying attention. You can tell when someone is just playing lip service. He wasn't. Alexis is just cute as a button but don't let that fool ya. She's also fun as hell, but I got the impression that she could throw down hard if need be. I like that in a gal! Garrette is indeed very clean cut looking... and yet... heh. Contrary to playful threats, he did not, in fact, bring his body guards... not wanting to embarass him in front of his boss and all, I didn't hurt him.. much. (I've been harassing him on the issue of naming a Sports CL.) Please do the same. I have too many golf thingies I need added damn it! LOL (As if I don't already have too many reviews in draft as it is) Paul is from Dealtime and the ladies were swooning. He fits in great with the Epinions staff. Yoing, energetic, cute as hell... hey.. don't you think it odd that the entire staff is really cute? Is that like a prerequisite to working in Brisbane? damn. The bottom line on the staff is that they were working the room and they were really all paying attention and listening to us. While it was mainly a party atmosphere, I think a lot of good ideas got brought forward and are being considered. Give them time. They don't have a magic wand getting, the glitches getting fixed first is the top priority. Our new toys will come eventually. ~~~~~~~~ I hesitate to name members that showed up because I know damn well I'ma forget someone important and hurt their feelings.. someone please slap me upside the head if that happens so I can add them! Nick (smoking-gun) and I arrived at just about 1PM exactly and there were already a few folks there. The place filled up rapidly after that. ESPN Zone really was a great choice to hold this get together. The upbeat atmosphere helped folks loosen up a bit I think. I said in my review of the place that our private Zone staff was fabulous.. but ya know, he knew he had a room full of reviewers too... the management prolly threatened him with grave bodily harm if he didn't anticipate our every whim. LOL I loved meeting everyone, but there are a few absolute highlights of my evening. NetDanzr is one of two people responsible for keeping me here when I first joined over a year ago. I'd already met the other (Tom Barnes, who saddly couldn't get off work that day to join us) so was greatly thrilled that Jozef showed up to this one. He is a stone fox, and he's single ladies! Do I even need to go into the antics of Xiphoid? She was the absolute hit of the evening. Just this little adorable gal that bounces around and lights up the room with no effort. She is so full of life! I promised not to go into the table dancing thang... I think Nirav is regretting that "no dating the writers" rule.. heh. Aashok and I have been great friends on Epinions for quite awhile now, so we made plans for dinner after the greet well before we even arrived. He is a fantastic photographer and was flitting around grabbing shots everywhere. He hasn't posted nearly al the pics he has yet... but some of them are here: http://www.fortunecity.com/greenfield/porton/464/id71.htm You can finally see him at the bottom of that page. He looks just like that. Charming, fun, good lookin'... Nick and I look forward to going back up again soon and meeting his wife. Popsrocks looks exactly like his pictures so it was easy for me to recognize him and assault him before he could even read my name tag. LOL Poor Phil! He gives really good hugs! I was really sorry he couldn't come to dinner with us because he had to work. Damn it. Next time Phil! There's just so many people! I got to harass my games CL, 32_footsteps for a bit.. snicker. He really is the authority on the subject! davidk93 tried on the infamous thong for us, until Nirav stole it from him! The queen of all that is Star Trek, AliventiAsylum showed up and I finally got to chat all too briefly her towards the end. I'll be back Patti! The charming and over-worked kristinaF is much prettier in real life than her picture. I really was struck by her stature and beauty. Didn't get to speak with her near long enough. trust1234 did actually ride one of his unicyles to the greet! He even demonstrated a bit for us inside the room, and had some awesome pics of his road trip across Norway. His eyes just light up when you're talking to him. Every bit as intelligent and fun as he comes across in his reviews. I got to meet mjfrombuffalo all too briefly on her way out the door. She doesn't write often, but I love it when she does. Fuche_bu got caught with a green beer bottle in his hand! The evidence is on someone's camera somewhere.. I think he paid them to hide it. There were a few folks who attended that I didn't get much of a chance to talk too, and that sucks! Time just flew by and before ya know it it was over. Javelina, Speeddemon531, and a few other folks who I didn't even get a chance to read their name tags. Damn. All in all, an extremely good time and worth every minute of the drive from Richmond to attend. I do urge you to go to one if there is one in your general area. We had a fantastic group of folks, every one of them exactly as you imagine them to be. |
