...there's no list of the best 80's metal that is complete without Queesnryche's Operation:MindCrime. It's a masterpiece. As for Balls to the Wall...the single was classic but Metal Heart is a FAR superior album. Taste is subjective and we're all allowed our opinions but really...Saxon?! It's okay, I'm sure someone out there thinks Pretty Boy Floyd was underrated too.

I will half agree with your #1. I think ride the lightening is THE best ever album. After all these years, I still listen to it all the time. I've had to buy it at least 5x's. From eaten tapes to switching to cd's to my kids taking it.

I always found Dokken to be overproduced and too pretty, myself. I know that a lot of people liked them, but I wouldn't have included them in a list of the best of the era.
Just curious, but that being left off was enough for this review to be only "Somewhat Helpful"? Or was there something else?

Sorry I didn't respond earlier - I never knew this comment got left behind. I'll agree that Megadeth was a good band, but even "Peace Sells" wouldn't crack my top 10. "Balls to the Wall" was a great album, too - probably worthy of an honorable mention, but not the top 10.
I hope you cleaned up after yourself.

Slayer was good, but I didn't think that they 'defined' the era. Perhaps the black metal era to an extent, but Venom and Celtic Frost were just as influential.

everybody's got their own opinion, but come on dude, how could you leave out Slayer "Reign in Blood". That album defined heavy metal in the 80's.

It was a hard choice between that and Gn'R, but I had to pick Guns n' Roses. Both are great albums, though.
