Is There Any Insulation in this Room?!??!?!?!?!?!?!

Written: Apr 23 '07 (Updated Apr 23 '07)
Pros:Clean, Low Price, Good Television Channel Selection, Large Room, Firm Beds
Cons:Noisy, Unfriendly Service, Poor Lighting, Advertised as a suite,
The Bottom Line: I will give it two stars based on the fact that the room was large and clean.

The Background:

My wife and I where planning a weekend trip up to Logan, Utah in order to visit our niece who is a Physics/Mathematics double major at Utah State University. Since Hotwire did not have any lodging available in the Logan area we went to plan B and started looking on websites such as Travelocity.

We settled on the Logan Inn, since at $42.00 a night it was about $25.00 cheaper than any of the competition, yet had average reviews at Travelocity.

The Motel:

Finding the motel is very easy. Traveling from the south it is on the east side of Highways 89/91 just to the north after the highways turn from northeast to due north at a lighted intersection.

The motel has two rectangular strips of rooms separated by a large parking area. Beyond the parking and two main buildings was a third building that contained the indoor pool and spa.

Hotel Address and Phone Number:

Logan Inn
364 South Main Street
Logan, UT 84321
435-753-5623

Other Amenities:

Continental Breakfast, Laundry Area, Local Phone Calls, Computer in Lobby with High Speed Internet Service, Free Wireless Internet Service, fax and copy services, 24 Hour Front Desk, Complimentary Newspapers, Data Ports, and trailer parking available.

This motel used to be a Days Inn but is no longer part of that franchise.

Check In:

The office is located on your right as you pull in between the two buildings. While the person who checked us in was quick, she was not friendly. She never smiled, never welcomed us or anything.

Not a good start to our stay.

The Room:

The room was very inviting as we entered it. However, first you had to open the door, or kick the door open is more like it, as it would not open by just pushing it open after turning the knob.

As you enter the room to the right was a window, with the HVAC under it. In front of the window was a comfortable chair but it was not a recliner. Next to the chair was the King Size bed separated by two nightstands with sconces over them. One nightstand had a digital clock and the other had the phone. To the left was a six drawer dresser with a 27” television above it. Beyond the dresser was the mini fridge with a microwave above it. Just beyond the refrigerator was a small rack to hang clothes on. There was no luggage stand.

Against the far wall that backs the bathroom was a large desk with four surge protected outlets. Next you go into the bathroom area. To your left is a sink with a hairdryer along the wall and to the right you enter the room with the toilet and full sized bathtub.

Good Points:

-There are almost 75 channels available on the television which makes it the best selection I have encountered in any lodging facility I have stayed in.
-The room is large and does provide a lot of space.
-The beds where firm but not hard as a rock.

Bad Points:

-The Logan Inn’s website lists this room as a suite; while it is large I do not consider it a suite.
-In the bathroom there is a small rack to hold towels however, there is no towel rack by the vanity so once you use a towel you have no place to put it.
-While there is a place to hang clothes there is no rack provided to put your suitcase on.
-The amount of lighting provided is poor. The two sconces are the only lighting in the main area. It is difficult to work at the desk because the sconces do not provide adequate light. You can turn on the lights over the vanity but they still do not provide enough light to help at the desk.
-The HVAC unit is very noisy but works well.

The Ugly:

You better be a sound sleeper as there was a lot of noise in the room despite the presence of double pained windows. We could hear when any of our neighbors flushed a toilet, sneezed, or turned on their television. Plus you could hear all the cars and trucks go by on the nearby street, which remember is a highway.

The Really Ugly:

Then about 10:30pm our neighbors started making a lot of noise. The person below them came upstairs and said that they have a small child trying to sleep and could they please keep it down a little. The response was to start jumping up and down on the floor. The front desk would do nothing about it. This continued until after midnight when the neighbors must have passed out our something because it finally got quiet.

Continental Breakfast:

The Breakfast area is next to the front desk. There is a selection of juices, milk, a couple of different kinds of donuts, white bread for toast and two kinds of cereals.

In the Area:

There is a self service car wash next door.

In walking distance is the Oasis Coffee Shop and Grill and a Tesoro gas station with a food mart & car wash.

The downtown area is five blocks away and is a pleasant walk although it is slightly uphill as you head toward downtown.

I highly recommend eating at the Bluebird Café and Angie’s. Both are excellent and a good value for the dollar.

Nearby Attractions:

-Utah State University
-Bear River Heritage Area
-Hyrum City Museum
-Paradise Daughters of Utah Pioneers Museum
-Richmond Daughters of Utah Pioneers Museum
-Logan Canyon Scenic Byway
-Bear Lake
-Many Art Galleries
-Antique Stores
-Crystal Hot Springs
-Beaver Mountain Ski Area
-Stokes Nature Center

Checking Out:

Check out was much like check in. The front desk person was not friendly and could care less what happened during the night. She printed out our receipt and never said “than you for staying with us”, “sorry about the noise”, or anything.

Overall:

Next time we make a trip up to Logan we will spend the extra money and stay at the Best Western up the street (which also has more character).

Thanks once again to Di (SurgeRN911) for once again quickly adding another item to the database.
