the ER said I am defiantly going to have a miscarriage (Reply to this comment)
by snelso
I went into the er 2 days ago. they said I was supposed to be 4 Weeks 6 days at the time. I had really bad lower abdominal pains which us why I went in. They did a transvaginal ultrasound and found I have ovarian cysts. The doctor came in the room and told me that there is no was I have a viable pregnancy in my uterus but it is to early to tell if there is a baby in my tubes. He said most likely the baby is dead and my body absorbed it. But I still have every pregnancy symptom, I have had no bleeding and only the pain from my cysts. My hcg levels were 612 with the doctor said is also too low for a viable pregnancy unless it was ectopic. Do I have any hope of him being wrong?

Could my doctor be wrong (Reply to this comment)
by carebearemmy
Going by my last menstrual cycle I should be 8.3 weeks but the doctor said the baby was measuring 6 1/...7 weeks and the sac was measuring 7 weeks, they said there was no heart beat so they went on to do a vaginal ultrasound and still no heart beat, I couldn't really see the screen so I don't believe him. I am booked in for another ultrasound in 2 weeks but that is so long to wait and my HCG levels were also taken. Will my HCG still be rising and should they of seen a heart beat. So worried as I have had no bleeding or cramping at all.

I was told i will miscarry ... (Reply to this comment)
by baby1976
According to my last menstrual cycle I should be like 10 weeks. The doctor said I felt like 16 weeks pregnant....and that there was no heart beat with the doppler, two different ones where used. Then the ultra sound lady made me empty my bladder adn said I didn't need water before the ultrasound. My other doctor where I moved from made me drink water and not empty it beforehand. I'm getting mixed signals. No heart beat in both the internal and exterior ultrasounds on wednesday. I am not bledding, and will not get a D&C like they mentioned where an option. Is it safe to wait? Also, the tech said I was like 8 weeks? I think I should wait but do I have a chance of a healthy baby if the tech mentioned it was sort of squigley around the shape of the embryo?

No heartbeat-This is happpening to me too (Reply to this comment)
by leanna01
I went to the ER Monday because I had bled lighty and cramped. It was not an OB DR I had not been able to get an appt yet for my OB until the following week; he was out of town. Unsure of how far I was along due to irregular periods they seemed to thinkl from blood tests I was 10 weeks but fetus size showed 7 weeks. BUT NO HEARTBEAT. The doctor and US tech did US but they concluded there was no heartbeat. The DR said I would miscarry it would simply be a matter of time. I felt so destroyed and beyond all that I wasn't even let see the US monitor at all for my own peace of mind. I am hoping that when I go to OB on July 6th that I will have better news I simply don't believe they have any faith.

Confused of pregnancy... (Reply to this comment)
by silla7102
On April 4th (Friday) I woke up to me bleeding. I call a nurse hotline and they tell me to go into the E.R to see what was going on. I go in there and they draw some blood and do a pelvic exam. About a hour or so later the doctor comes back to tell me some horrifying news that I never thought I would hear. He told me that my HCG level was at a 13 and by then end of the weekend (Sunday) My HCG would be at a 0. And that I have probably miscarried BUT my cervix was still closed. So I go back in on Sunday they do another blood test and another pelvic exam. The doctors comes back again about a hour later and tells me that my HCG went down to a 4 but my cervix was STILL closed and that I had probably miscarried. About a week later I quit bleeding. If I did miscarry the baby I would of lost it at about 5 1/2 weeks. For some strange reason I have a gut feeling that I am pregnant or STILL pregnant. Has anyone else felt this way and was pregnant? I should of started me period today and have yet to start it. I know its the same day but I dont know I just have a gut feeling about it. If anyone else feels this way could you email me and let me know please?

blighted ovum? (Reply to this comment)
by panick
Dearest Bonzobean,
Well, I went for my vaginal ultrasound today. I should be 9 weeks pregnant (or 10 according to my real calculations)... still no embryo, no heartbeat. The doctor said to me to come back in a week just to check again with another ultrasound but if still no embryo or heartbeat, then I will be scheduled for a D&C the next day unless I start to miscarry before that in which case I should rush to the hospital.
I am so sad not to have been able to tell you some good news and transmit more hope out there. Now I just have to wait another week but I have almost lost hope. I dont even feel pregnant any more.
I do know something, I am not giving up. If it is a blighted ovum, as soon as this nightmare is over, I am trying again.
Love
Margot

Hi Terri,
First of all, check out this site:
http://home.earthlink.net/~misdiagnosed/
I think you'll find some good information.
I am not sure if you have a blighted ovum or not. In the case of a blighted ovum, the egg is fertilized but the baby never develops. The placenta does continue to grow until the body realizes something is wrong so I don't think the shape of the sac matters (but I am not sure). Anyhow, get a new doctor and have another ultrasound done. Do not schedule a D&C until you know one way or another what is happening.
Oh, and check out that site. You may find a misdiagnosed story or two that helps you out. Feel free to email me at any time.

Hi everyone,
This is mt first time writing, but I'm very confused and searching for answers.I'm 9 wks 4 days pregnant. I went to my first O.B. appt yesterday.(New DR.) Since I've had 2 miscarriages in the last 2 yrs he did a u/s. First he tried a vaginal, couldn't find ANYTHING!! Next he did a regular u/s. Found the sac that the baby should have been in but there was nothing there as far as he could see. I asked point blank what was going on and he wouldn't give me an answer. He did say that the sac was perfectly shaped, but he was concerned that he couldn't see anything. He then tells me to go to the hospital the next day for a u/s and then come back to the office. He then left the room and never really talked to me again.
It wasn't until I came home and started searching the web, that I found out I MAY have a blighted ovum. I DID NOT go for the u/s, nor did I return to his office.(sat for over 2 hrs at my first visit!!) Will start a search for a new OB on Monday. I don't want to get my hopes up, but at least I am encouraged by what I have read here. I guess what I am most curious about is the fact that he kept telling me how perfect the sac is shaped. Even gave me a photo of it!! Does this mean anything? Was he just trying to distract me because I was asking questions he didn't want to answer. With a blighted ovum is the sac usually an abnormal shape? Anything you can share would be appreciated.

Margot, in the meantime, you will be in my thoughts and prayers. Also, many women go get a second opinion by another doctor. Is this an option for you? Sometimes, some ultrasound techs are not as adept as others.
I want more than anything to add you to our success stories. Keep me updated and, please, feel free to email me at any time, even if just to rant or cry.

Hi Bonzobean!
Thanks so much for replying to my note. It is women like you who give hope to the rest of us out there! I have a follow up ultrasound scheduled for next Thursday 14th October. This time I have asked to go where I can have a vaginal ultrasound. I am still so worried but the more I read other womens postings, the more hope I have that it will all be ok in the end.
Thanks for the link, I have had a good read already. I will let you know my outcome on Thursday and hopefully give more hope to other women out there in the same situation!
Best Wishes

Margot, I am so sorry. I know all too well the pain you are going through. That was a horrible time for me as well and I cried a lot. First of all, I would recommend going to another doctor and getting a 'second opinion'. You'll get another ultrasound and, perhaps, an ultrasound tech who may be more experienced and can give you some hope. Don't give up hope. As you can see, many of us are misdiagnosed. Fortunately, you know to wait until you are 100% sure before you have a d&c. Many women do not even know to do that and blindly take the doctor's word for it. I have heard from so many women who got the d&c and then realized later that they were probably misdiagnosed. So sad.
You'll be in my prayers. Feel free to email me at bonzobean@gmail.com I am a good listener. Also, if you haven't checked out the 'Misdiagnosed Miscarriage' site, check it out. You may find some more 'hope'.

take care.

Blighted Ovum (Reply to this comment)
by panick
Dear Bonzobean,
Since going for my first gynaecologist apointment last Thursday believing I was 8 weeks pregnant after finding out I was pregnant on 9th September I have been searching for information on the internet after leaving the surgery shocked and very upset. My doctor told me she could not see an embryo, only an empty sac. She said to me: "you are either less than 8 weeks pregnant as you believe or you are carrying an empty sac. Come back in two weeks and we will do another ultrasound. In te meantime, go and get some blood and urine tests done"
Two weeks is a very long time to be waiting anxiously for another ultrasound. I spent most of the day at work on Friday crying and looking for answers. I came across so many postings from women who have gone through the same thing, many of them who end up with a healthy outcome. I have read your posting and it has given me a lot of hope but I am so scared of going for that next ultrasound. I have not been bleeding and I continue to have pregnancy symptoms so I believe that is in my favour but I cannot help thinking what will happen if the doctor sees no embryo in a weeks time.
Having gone through a similar experience, do you have any advice you can share with me? I went for my blood and urine tests at my local hospital on Monday but the results will take 10 to 12 days.
I just dont know whether to prepare myself for the worst or to just carry on like everything is normal.
I hope you have the time to read my posting and if so, I look forward to hearing from you.
Best Wishes
Margot

Lovinmom, I think the latest I know of is just over 10 weeks. She also had a bicornuate uterus. I posted at http://forums.obgyn.net/pregnancy-birth/ when I was going through all of this and I occasionally get emails from women there who have similar stories to share. I also found a few at the parentsplace boards. Personally, I wish they'd skip the ultrasounds until women are further along. If I had never had those ultrasounds, my pregnancy would have been much more peaceful =)

I am so sorry. I empathize with you and remember the fear and frustration. I told my doctor I absolutely did not want a d&c. I've met too many women who regret their d&c's and would have rathered miscarry. And, other women are thankful the d&c ended things so quickly for them so they could go on and try to get pregnant again.
Hang in there and please let me know what happens. I'll be praying for you.

I am so sorry to hear that you are going through this tormenting time. I would advise going to another doctor to get a second opinion. You have a right to do that. The fact that your doctor is telling you that you must have a D&C by the end of the week is wrong. If you truly are going to have a miscarriage, I have read cases where the baby is lost several weeks after the mother finds out. The mothers all made it through. I have a friend who had a period at 8 weeks. Her doctor told her that she was miscarrying and wouldn't do a D&C. She was actually begging for one. Well, that baby is now 3 1/2 yrs. old. Can you believe that! You are still very early for a fetus to show and for even a heart beat to show. Sometime I wonder what is wrong with some doctors that they are so quick to perform a D&C. Is it high liability or something for them? I just got out of town and I hope that you get this soon. Hang in there. There is still hope. It is always best to wait things out just incase there is a misdiagnosis. That often happens. For more info and cases of misdiagnosis, go to to babycenter.com and type in misdiagnosed blighted ovum. You will find the board with posts of many women who were misdiagnosed. Also, go to medhelp.com and click into the maternal forum. You will get some good support there and scroll down to read maybebaby case. Let me know how it goes. My prayers are with you!

no heartbeat at 6wks,6days (Reply to this comment)
by mommyhopes
This site has given me hope (false hope?). I found out I was pregnant only last week. Since then it has been worrisome and heartbreaking! Dr. asked if I had any bleeding. I stated that I had brown blood during the beginning of July when I would've normally had my period. (this worried him) He stated that it could be ectopic so he sent me that day to do the first of a series of HCG level bloodwork. The first level was fine and I was told I had a viable pregnancy. The 2nd level was higher but wasn't climbing fast enough for him. I was immediately sent to do an ultrasound where the radiologist found that my baby was 6 wks,6days,all intact, sac, pole, etc. BUT baby has no heartbeat (this was on Tuesday). I was then told to expect to miscarry anyday. I have no symptoms of miscarriage and continue to have all the pregnancy symptoms of breast tenderness, nausea, cravings, tired, etc. I just went back for a consult b/c I'm refusing to do a D&C. I was told the symptoms are b/c I have not gotten rid of the "tissue" yet. Again, I rec'd the same news as before that I should expect to miscarry and if not that I need to go for a D&C! I don't know if it's just wishful thinking, hopelessly hopeful or just a Mommy's gut feeling, but I just cannot let this baby go yet! I want to have some sort of natural sign that something is wrong with my baby! I haven't bleed since that first wk in July and I have not had any cramping, etc. Also the month I conceived, my period was about 7 days earlier than it normally would be, I'm irregular that way so I wonder if maybe I didn't ovulate when the Dr's tell me I did. (they explained that away by telling me that the measurements of the baby (6wks,6days tell a different story!)
opinions? comments? Don't I have a right to say NO to a D&C. I'm being told it HAS to be done at the latest next the end of next week! Sometimes I wonder if Dr's have become way to reliant on technology!

Thank you so much Bonzo Bean for sharing your story. I couldn't find this article until after my D&C. I didn't have a peace at the time of getting it. I searched the internet for answers before and just couldn't find any info. I still continued to search after my D&C by putting into google: Misdiagnosed Blighted Ovum. Could you somehow put this article in many other baby web-sites so other women can see this? If you do, put it under Blighted Ovum. That is what most people type in when going through a diagnosed Blighted Ovum. I really believe in my heart that there is many D&C's taking place that do not need to. My pathology report said "Products of Conception" The doctor won't tell me if that had a fetus in it or not. He said on my ultrasound that there was not one. The lab won't tell me because the legally can't. It think that is terrible. It has been a year and no conception yet. I just hope that there is no scarring from the D&C. I have put your post on a couple of web-sites to help other women. I just want to see precious babies saved. God bless you and I am so glad to see your story and I hope that it will help many women.

Hernandez 584 - Please hang in there. My friend was told at 9 weeks that her baby had no heartbeat via ultrasound. Since my friend was bleeding, the doctor told her that she was already miscarrying and he wouldn't do a D&C. Thank God for that! That baby is now 3 yrs. old! I am so convinced that so many babies are being lost to midiagnosed D&C's. I have done so much research on the subject and am totally convinced. It is best to wait things out naturally. That way if you will never be left wondering if a baby was lost to a D&C. The fact that your hcg numbers are going up is a VERY good sign. Please let us know how it goes. It helps many others to know if your doctor was correct or not. God bless you!

I went to the doctor yesterday - 6 weeks and a few days pregnant. He did internal sonogram couldn't find anything - just fluid. He is wondering if I have a Blighted Ovum. I am wondering if maybe it is too early or could it be hiding? I do have a tilted uterus. I am not giving up yet. They will check my blood levels and see what they say.

I too have a tilted uterus and also had a blighted ovum with my first pregnancy, which I miscarried at 12 weeks (I had stopped feeling pregnant weeks before.)
On the second pregnancy they started ultrasounds early (5-6 weeks) and this time determined I was carrying twins! One however was not viable and just simply disappeared. However the pregnancy went to full term and I went on to eventually have another child, too.
No more kids for me either but this is so informative. I didn't know about this either.
Thanks for sharing,

And thanks for coming back to share with all of us. When I had my first son, there was a woman in my hospital room whose baby developed outside the uterus (in the abdominal wall.) She had had many infertility problems and had finally adopted a little boy one year before she had this one. Her daughter was truly a miracle baby.
