elzora's Full Review: Unisom Night Time Sleep Aid Tablets
I have dealt with the occasional bouts of insomnia for several years now. If I really need to get a good night's sleep, I always reach for Unisom.
I have tried Benadryl and Tylenol sleep products, but they don't help me at all, in fact Tylenol wires me. And benadryl tends to dry out my sinus cavities.
The main ingredient in Unisom is unique to other sleep aids I have tried, containing 25 mg. of Doxylamine Succinate per pill. The size of the pills make them easy to swallow, they are a small narrow oval shape. The blue light blue pills are scored in the middle so that I can easily snap one in half if I so choose. Sometimes taking just a half a pill will work fine, but if I am not feeling well and really need to be sure I get a great night's sleep, I take an entire pill.
I am very cautious about mixing medicines, and this past week I managed to get a cold from some of my daycare children, and unfortunately mine turned into bronchitis. I really needed to get a good nights sleep since I get up at 6:30 every morning. My husband is always pushing different types of cold medicines on me, but I insist on taking cold pills that will not have any kind of interaction with my Unisom sleeping pills.
Luckily for me, I was able to find Nyquil night time capsules, which contain 6.25 mg of Doxylamine Succinate. I can take both the Unisom and the Nyquil together without any concern of ill effects.

My Experience
I have found Unisom to be a very reliable sleep aid, even my husband takes them when we are out in the motohome or go on vacation. It's sometimes harder to get to sleep in a new environment, so he carries these in his shaving kit. When we spend the night in a hotel, we both take them.
I generally start to feel sleepy within a half hour of taking the Unisom pills. And they allow me to sleep the entire night. That's the other thing I deal with occasionally, I get to sleep okay but then wake up early in morning and can't get back to sleep. When I take the Unisom I sleep the entire night and wake up with my alarm.
Years ago I did go to my Dr. and get some prescription sleeping pills, he gave me enough for only 1 week (because he said they were addictive), and let me tell you, I felt like a zombie the next morning! Those pills didn't wear off for hours, I swear I didn't feel normal until almost noon!
Unisom does not give me that groggy feeling the following day. I have recommended Unisom to two of my friends, one of them raved about it wondering how he never happened to hear about it before. The other friend said she did feel groggy. If that's the case, I would suggest breaking the pill in half and giving the smaller dose a try.

To Conclude
I rely on Unisom Night Time Sleep Aid Tablets to help me get a good nights sleep. When I am feeling under the weather they do the job. There are times when I am just really stressed out and can't turn off my mind, I lay there in bed thinking about all the things that need to be done. When those occasions arise, I also turn to Unisom and they help relax me enough to be able to fall asleep. I am at the point where I don't like to be without these pills in my medicine cabinet, because they are worth their weight in gold.
I personally do feel as though these pills can be somewhat addictive, even though their commercials say they are not. Maybe the addiction is only mental, but there have been nights I have been totally dependent upon these pills to help me get to sleep. For this reason I only use them when needed and try to do that sparingly.
The only downfall is the price, they are indeed expensive, so I always buy them on sale. I pay $9.00 (on sale) for a box of 48 tablets. If I am desperate and can't find them on sale, I will buy the Kirkland brand from Costco, which contain the same ingredients. I do prefer the Unisom however.
Unisom is made by Pfizer, the world's largest pharmaceutical company. They have been in business since the mid 1800's.
