How about... (Reply to this comment)
by timothycdavis
James Jett on Super Tecmo Bowl? With the equivalent of 3.9 speed, you could drop back and air one out 70-some yds....and the aptly named Jett would nab it most every time. My friend used to throw bombs to Jett all day, so much that I still cringe when I think about the little "in action" subscreen of Jett leaping over a defender rose up.

my tecmo greats (Reply to this comment)
by tecmoking
I believe there are a few players missing on your list. The first being the late and great Derrick Thomas who was just as good as LT in all the tecmo bowl games and was so strong and fast that I once piled up 18 qb sacks in one game. You have also forgotten Rod Woodson who was lightning fast, strong as a linebacker and had the same interception rate as Deion Sanders. And last but not least is the late Reggie White who knocked away o-linemen as easily as Christian Okoye knocked away defensive backs which helped earn him at least 5 qb sacks a game.

Where is Tyson? (Reply to this comment)
by balls1984
I think Mike Tyson needs to be on this list. He was nearly unstoppable (until you figured out a method to beat him)in MT's Punch Out!In fact, I would like to see the percentage of people who STILL can't be him, including myself and I know a number of people who still haven't.Mike Tyson is definitely a Top 10 in my book.

That's another one I don't understand. Portis should have as much speed and durability, and when he was on the Broncos he had an o-line equal to that of the Vikings. Yet it's Bennett who can tear up the turf.

I think the fact that I didn't play very many sports games between 1997 and 2000 reflect their omission from this list.

Hard to pick a top 10... (Reply to this comment)
by cspu
I know mine would have included Walter Payton. In Madden 93 you could be the 85 Bears and just run halfback tosses for the whole game Payton was unstoppable!
Madden 98's Jerome Bettis was nearly as unstoppable, he'd just bowl over everyone on the way to the endzone! Barry Sanders was great as always.

Iron Mike didn't break the game; he was part of it. The 'players' on that list broke the games they were in; they made it too easy, if you chose them.

Bo Jackson Rocked! (Reply to this comment)

I used to go backwards to the one yard line just so I could break a 99 yard TD run with Bo in Tecmo Super Bowl! Great List!

Tyson is a cult hero in the world of gaming, and he was good. However, he was only in one game and his name was removed from title. He's a borderline case. I'd say top 20, but not top 10.
As for Elway. Believe it or not, I've never played a game where he was that good. If anything Montana should be in above him (and I almost put him in instead of Rice, but Rice was slightly better from my experiences). In Tecmo Super Bowl, I would say that he wasn't even a in the top half of all the starting QBs. John Elway's Quarterback was a pretty awful game and it didn't give him any superhuman abilities over his QB bretheren.

Dude,
I loved this review, what a great idea! But where is Tyson? Sure, his later titles faded, but he was a badass in his Punchout title. Even if you had the codes, he was tough to beat.
Elway was pretty unstopable in a lot of those earlyt games, including his own lame title. (Though it was fun in the arcade.)
AGain, great review, especially for the nod to the old school greats. . .
