| manky's Full Review: Zojirushi Mr. Bento Stainless Lunch Jar SL-EB14 |
Zojirushi's Mr.Bento Lunch Jar is a thermos-type, stacked, bento. Bentos are Japanese styled meals with various items, separated into their own areas/compartments of the container. This particular bento has 4 round, lidded, stacking bowls that fit into a larger thermal container. Looking very space-age in design, it's sure to grab attention of others in the lunch room, or as they walk by your desk.
I first considered a Mr.B after seeing many beautiful meals prepared and packed in him on flickr. Hoping to set a new precedence in my own meal making, I wanted to find a good investment that would inspire me to do so.
When I finally got a Mr.Bento of my own I was excited to test out the "keeping food warm" factor. I followed all the instructions, and other user's advice, and filled the outer container with hot water while I prepared a fresh/hot meal... maybe I took too long packing, maybe I simply like my food to be truly hot, but I was not impressed with the heat level after 5 hours... stuff was merely tepid.
Trying to get over my disappointment with the heat retention, I tried out cold meals and was fabulously impressed. I even once tried out taking Ice Cream... and it was still frozen over 4 hours later! That was exciting!
Each container included in Mr.B is microwave and dishwasher friendly, without it's accompanying lid. The bottom most container is specifically airtight, with a steam escape valve, so you can safely carry soup without leakage!
The US released version come with a forked-spoon, while the tradition release comes with chopsticks!
Zojirushi, as a company, is great at backing their product. They will sell replacement bowls (for those who simply want extras on hand, or for lost ones!) and even the sticks or spork!
I can't say enough about this great addition to my kitchen!
