The Scooba Caddy: a home for your Scooba
Written: Apr 26 '07
I've been using my Scooba for four months now. I absolutely love it and have no complaints other than the fact that finding a place to store it has been a challenge. I have a small house so storage is always an issue. I discovered the Scooba Caddy while placing an order at iRobot.com. It seemed like a great solution to my problem so I added it to my cart.
What Is A Scooba Caddy?
This product is a plastic stand that allows you to store your Scooba in an upright position. It has three pieces: the main stand and two plastic legs that snap into it. It took me all of about thirty seconds to assemble the Scooba Caddy and that includes removing all of the plastic wrapping.
Once the caddy is assembled, all you have to do is place your Scooba onto it. I keep mine underneath my ironing board in my boyfriend's computer room/office. The robot is pretty heavy and I had doubts about the sturdiness of this product. I have kicked it (accidentally and on purpose) several times and the Scooba Caddy hasn't so much as wobbled. When it gets dirty or dusty, I just wipe it down with warm water and a rag.
One disappointing aspect of this item is the fact that it does not incorporate a self-charger into the design. You still have to store your Scooba near an outlet in order to maintian the battery's charge which limits placement.
Cost and Availability
I paid $14.99 for my Scooba Caddy. Well, that's not strictly true. I ordered it back in January and the price was $25.50 at the time. It was on backorder for three months and didn't arrive until April. By that point, the iRobot site listed it for $14.99. I sent an email to the company inquiring about the price discrepancy. I received a phone call the next morning apologizing for the difference and a promise that they would credit $10.50 to my credit card immediately.
As far as I can tell, Scooba accessories, including the Scooba Caddy, are sold only on the iRobot web site. I have seen Scoobas and Scooba cleaning solution for sale in stores like Target, Kohl's, and Linens N Things but I've never seen replacement parts or storage accessories sold in stores.
Overall Opinion
The Scooba Caddy is perfect for my storage needs. It allows me to get the damp underside of my Scooba up off of my hardwood floors and minimizes the amount of space taken up by the robot when it's not in use. It's inexpensive and very sturdy so you don't have to worry about it tipping over. I would have been willing to pay more for a similar caddy that also had a built in charger but I am still happy with this model. If you have lots of closet space, you probably don't need this product. But if you live in a smaller house and storage is an issue, get your Scooba a Scooba Caddy.
