Press Your Luck Game Show Scandal (Reply to this comment)

I watched that show last night and I agree, this would make a great film, not only his part in the game show but his life after. Wonder what he would have done if he had lost???

This game show was my favorite next to Price is Right when I was a kid!

The whammies were the best part of the game. Me and the neighborhood kids wanted the adults to loose so we could laugh at those silly hairy red guys! It is clear this guy that scammed the show didn't laugh at whammies but laughed all the way to the bank!

Great review David!

Have seen the horrors of people losing tons of money on that show before. One contestant had well over $20,000 when she hit a whammy and lost it all....

Michael won what.....$117,236? I'm guessing that's the exact amount; but anyway, it does prove that the man was greedy and conniving.

I don't have GSN and I wanted to watch that, it's too bad I can't see it.

At least you reviewed it so I could get a glimpse into what the documentary was like!

Thanks for this piece, I loved it!

Yea, he did get paid in the end, and afterwards CBS changed the game board to make it harder to figure out. Happy to see you with your nutty comments again. How's your book doing?

Yes, Quiz Show was based on a much older scandal involving NBC's Twenty-One, from the 1950's... in that one, the producers of the show rigged it, by giving appealing contestants answers so they would be on the air for as long as the public enjoyed them... when the public got tired with them, the producers made the player take a dive.
But I think that the Micheal Larsen story would make a good film, if somebody wanted to make it.

Jan, I believe you are thinking of QUIZ SHOW, in which Ralph Fiennes played Charles Van Doren. It was based on the most famous of these scandals.

Nice review, David.

Wasn't the movie Game Show based on him? Redford directed. Joel from Northern Exposure starred. Great movie!

When I grow up I want to be just like this guy. I better ask for a few more TVs for Christmas. Then I can quit my job and hit it rich.

It's about time I put the TV to work for me.

Interesting write-up.
