Impertinent Thoughts on Pertinent Subjects XXXI

The Bottom Line n/a

Off we go...

Ka-Chingy!

This f*cking guy man, as if the whole bling-bling portion of hip hop wasn't in my face enough as it is, we get this jackass. "I love when you do that right thurr." Oh, I get it, because he has that southern drawl or whatever, it makes the song cool. What, are you f*cking kidding me? Thank god the Tribe is back together.

The New Britney...Not the Same as the Old Britney

That's right, because her new single, Me Against the Music, has about as much commercial appeal as Rosanne Barr in a bikini. It will still get airplay because it's Britney (with Madonna no less), but I can't see this thing blowing up huge, it has NO HOOK whatsoever. In other Britney news, she has basically said she doesn't want to sell the whole "sex" side (pfft, yeah right) and that she told her label so. As another writer wrote in a certain forum, just come out and admit the truth Brit...

STP Hits Fans Up For Some $$$, Offers DVD In Return

Stone Temple Pilots, currently on (permanent?) hiatus, will release a greatest hits album next month. Included in a special edition package will be a DVD with clips of 32 different songs. No word on whether the clips are full or not, but it sounds very f*cking cool if you ask me.

The Official Bootleg Phenomenon

Am I the only one who isn't surprised that these things have become such a hit? Now Incubus is doing them. And to think, it took those rock and roll dinosaurs, Pearl Jam, to get stuff like this rolling.

Speaking of My Boys...

Fans will FINALLY get the long awaited rarities album next month. Lost Dogs is a nice mix of b-sides, past Xmas singles to fan club members, rare live numbers, and studio outtakes no one has ever heard before. While many fans are griping about the tracklisting, I think it's probably closest to pleasing everybody as they possibly could. Also coming out is a full length DVD of the band's performance at Madison Square Garden (7500 fan club members in attendance) from this past July. Given my seat for that show, I might actually be on the DVD (though I'm not counting on it). You can read my review of "the greatest Pearl Jam show of all time" here.

Another Chi-Town Concert, Another Lawsuit

This one filed by fans of Limp Bizkit after their abbreviated set on the Chicago stop of the Summer Sanitarium Tour (the one where Fred got booed offstage and he whined from backstage to the crowd). Personally, I find lawsuits against bands are entirely moronic and dumb. You pay for a ticket, you might get a real shi*ty show, it's part of the deal of going to see a live band. Deal with it if the show sucks.

MONKEY SONG!!!

Man oh man, that new Barenaked Ladies song, Another Postcard, is HIGHLY HIGHLY addictive. That song deserves to be positively huge. Nothing in this world beats the look on my girlfriend's face when that song comes on the radio, NOTHING. You know what else is addictive? That Santana song sung by the kid from The Calling. And somehow I'm not sick of Unwell by Matchbox Twenty yet, even though radio has had it in heavy rotation for six months now. I guess that's kind of a sign of a REALLY good song, eh?

Puddle of Mudd...Back Again

Yes, these guys are back, and there's a great little article about them at MTV.com. Many people reamed them, and while the "smack my a*s" song got on my nerves, the other 3 singles released from the disc were killer tracks, and the rest of the album wasn't too shabby either. Supposedly they ramped up the Zeppelin influence for the new album, due out in late November. If this album is good, we might be saying that Puddle of Mudd will be Fred Durst's true lasting legacy...for those who forgot, it was Durst who gave the band a record deal.

New Bands Releasing Live CDs...WHY?

Why are bands like Linkin Park and Coldplay releasing live albums after only putting out a pair of studio discs? Live albums used to be a "tide the fans over" sort of thing in between albums, but after 2 albums? Come on, try and cash in a bit harder why don't you? For the record, I support official bootlegs of live shows and I wish EVERY SINGLE BAND would offer them. But to release a CD compiled from multiple performances as if this is the highlight of your career is f*cking clown shoes...this of course does not change the fact that Beavis Band blows, and that Coldplay is the most boring band on the planet. As a poster in the Pearl Jam group wrote, "coldplay took radioheads most lifeless song and made two albums out of it." I say, BEST DESCRIPTION EVER!

Ireland Becomes A Popular Venue For live DVD's...who knew?

Both U2 and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are prepping live DVD releases recorded at Slane Castle in Ireland. U2's performance is from the Elevation tour, and features some tracks (i.e. Angel of Harlem and All I Want Is You) that were not featured on their Boston DVD release from the same tour. The Chili Peppers DVD meanwhile, looks about as stale as ever, with no tracks from before Blood Sugar Sex Magic, and a ton from the last two records. I like the Chilis and all, but from what I've heard, they're hardly worth the live concert dollar. Maybe $15 for the DVD is more like it...

Screw U2 and the Chilis...It's All About the AQUABATS DVD

Yeah, that's right. Most of you have not one f*cking iota of a clue who the Aquabats are, but they are releasing a 2 disc DVD set in November titled Serious Awesomeness. I'll level with all of you right now: if you want to see a GREAT SHOW, go see these guys when they go out on tour in support of said DVD. In other good news for ska fans, Catch 22's new album comes out next month.

Hell On Earth, Suicide, and One Concert

Metal band Hell on Earth are quite simply a bunch of tools for trying to have someone commit suicide during one of their shows. It was soon changed to take place at another location from the show. If you want to make a political statement fine, but don't try to use this crap as a publicity stunt, it's f*cking lame.

Quick Hits

* Can someone PLEASE take out The Strokes, AKA the most over-rated band of the last 20 years? While you're at it, please take out The Hives and for the love of god, take out The Vines too...

* Anyone surprised Courtney Love was taken to the hospital for a drug overdose? No? Didn't think so...this of course brings to mind why someone like Hendrix OD's and dies yet we can't get rid of Courtney...

* Why is R Kelly being allowed to tour? And more importantly, shouldn't the tour be 18+?

* Robert Palmer, RIP...

* The Offspring have a new drummer...maybe this one will actually be talented enough to keep up on the bass drum...

* It's awesome that Newlyweds got renewed...THAT'S quality comedy right there

* Korn has pushed their album back a week...no word yet on the rumor that the delay is because it sucks even more than last year's unbearable Untouchables...

* And lastly for this month, I'd just like to say that if you are a metal fan and don't own the new Sevendust album yet, you don't know what you're missing...

I'll be back in a few weeks, same Professor Rock time, same Professor Rock channel ;)
