A Steaming Pile of Aural Excrement (Songs I F@#$%^& Hate W/O)
by DrFaustus | Oct 13 '03
As much as I like music, there are a few wholly unredeemable songs out there that keep coming back to haunt me... Share my pain...

I enjoyed your quote

It's a rare song that sounds so out and out bad, so wrong and evil, that they cause you physical pain. Listening to them is like taking a cheese grater to your soul, and they leave you with the kind of oily taint that a thousand showers can't wash away. If you're lucky, these kinds of songs will fade away into obscurity, never to be heard again.

It made my weekly top 100 quote list in November and is currently in my top 30. Good job!

...but you missed one. Please add that frickin' Sean Paul song I hear everytime I stop at a gas station. It is a banal and repetitive agony.

..this is great job, and I enjoyed the read immensely. Thanks a million for mentioning Madonna's 'Music' - man that song bugs me.

Now to the less pleasant stuff.. why, oh why Donna Lewis. I know the lyrics are a bit awkward and all, but I just love her voice and that guitar or whatever it is in the background. And that line you've got, the most stumbling blue eyes, I've ever seen. Love that song.. but then, should we really agree on everything? :)

Great job, really

I really have to agree with you about Meatloaf. I think he should be prevented from ever recording again. A few of the others I don't know, so I can't comment.

As for Pink, and "Get This Party Started," this isn't my kind of music, but I do love this song and the whole CD. I actually think the song is fun, but I can see where it would grate on you.

Now for the big one. Sheryl Crow's debut is a "vapid mess"? Oh my goodness. How I disagree.

But that's okay. And being a man and getting "Strong Enough"? No offense, but I'm not sure that's possible. She's talked alot about finding men secure enough in themselves who aren't daunted by a woman with flaws, rages, depression, a lifestyle that's different from most.

I think every woman can relate to that. Are you strong enough not to walk away when things get bad? I think that's the message, and I also love the lines, "God I feel like hell tonight. Tears of rage I cannot fight." "When I'm throwing punches in the air..." All of that I can relate to.

But you're allowed to hate it, I just had to throw my two cents in. I love every CD she's released except "Soak Up The Sun". There's not nearly enough darkness or honesty there. Guess we can't have it both ways.

Anyway, good job!

"I Love You Always Forever", that's a good one! Good one for this list I mean. "Mediocrity" merely scratches the surface, but that's okay, 'cause the surface is all there is!

Well done. You guys have no idea how many people are going to crash this thing...

Out of curiosity, which three were they (if you're willing to admit liking them)?

you managed to trash three songs I like a lot. But you did it with class and your reasons or valid, so I give you much respect, as always of course.

Wonderful job on the review.

Take care

I don't specifically remember the pot/kettle line from Friends, but I know that I had heard it before. That's probably where it popped into my head from...

True, Strong Enough may be a character study rather than a personal statement, but if it is, it studies a character that bugs the hell out of me (which may have been the point, but then again, may not have...).

Hello Pot. This is Kettle. You're black...

of all the lines ever uttered by anyone on friends, this is one of the ones that made me laugh the most.

granted, you may not be taking it from friends, as it's certainly been used elsewhere, but still ;)

That I like most of these?

Except Good Charlotte....though you could probably put every song they ever wrote in there and have a good "worst of all time" list. :)

Funky review man.

I'd recommend stopping the car and checking to see if you can help the gypsy woman. For one thing, it's ethical; for another, now I know that the Pink song is your fault, and I'm not too happy.

"Strong Enough" makes me queasy because of its popularity, but not necessarily for the song itself. We don't know that Sheryl is the narrator, and if it's a character study, it's a well-done one. Unfortunately it's so realistic that millions of college girls adopt it as an anthem, which is yucko. But it's not Sheryl's fault.

I think Good Charlotte's point is that complaining is fine until you're rich, at which point you have no excuses. Defensible.

How many of us will reference Satan in these? I haven't gotten there quite yet, but have used Evil once so far....

Nice job.
