Regular Octane vs High Octane

Oct 16 '03

The Bottom Line Don't waste your money on high octane unless it is absolutely necessary.

As a Fleet Manager with a fleet of over 200 vehicles I have throughly researched this issue. Very few vehicles need high octane fuel and more often than not you're throwing your money away on high octane. Use regular octane unless...

1. You are driving a very high profile sports car like a Nissan 350Z or a Lamborghini.
2. Your owners manual specifically says to use high octane.

** If you're using regular octane and your engine starts knocking I'd suggest stepping up to a mid-grade octane but this is highly unlikely.

The Federal Trade Commission talks about this issue on their web site also... http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/autos/octane.htm
