we first met and I said I was going to read everything you wrote. You replied that that wasn't necessary. Well, I found three more in among your links and my name is on 'em. Nice job and I think it was great to bring up those other writers, only one of whom I knew.

I woulld mess up on the one to my favorite!

In trying them all, I saw how few member ratings the reviews of the New York trilogy and "Peeping Tom" have, though each has more than 800 total hits...and many of my reviews have income shared of zero. I write about what I want to write about and let the pennies fall or not fall as they may.

Well, it would not be possible to overappreciate Bach, but serious music is very little written about here. Though when it is, it gets read, no?

Depends who's doing the writing... Starting out (and this I'm sure follows the general rule), my Bach et al reviews were fairly under-attended affairs, if I do say so. Like you, I was however most gratified when a review on a lesser-known composer (e.g. Partch, Ferrabosco) received a fair amount of hits and comments...

BTW, the link for greatest anti-epics doesn't work (the paragraph break code misplaced, I think).

You not only write extremely eloquent reviews... you also turn it on for write-off entries (not that there should be any intrinsic reason these forums deserve less attentive writing.)

Thus, I care more about the attention reviews I write championing under-rated or too-little-known books and movies gets than that accorded to reviews smiting over-rated and undeservedly venerated works or ratifying existing consensuses.

Excellent ethos, I think. It pretty much sums up my approach (though I think it is a sad world when lauding one so great as Bach or Gould means, on this site anyway, championing the "too-little-known" or visited). Apart from the classical sphere, which is generally neglected in every which way, I almost always go for the treasured but less trod book or film.

And now, off to your numerous links. Considering your wealth of high-quality reviews here, you of all people should deserve the syndication of dormant, bygone reviews...

Thanks for joining-
John
