The Flawed Witness

The Bottom Line I guess we all partake in activities others may not approve of...
Do you hear me brothers and sisters? yelled the radio, Do you understand what it is that the Lord wants us to do? He doesnt ask much.
Amen, the woman enthusiastically said. She reached across the dashboard to turn the radio up.
The Lord says in His seventh commandment, You shall not commit adultery. What is it that He means by this? To follow His word, you must understand it, brothers and sisters, the radio preached.
The woman smiled proudly as she made her way into a small convenience store parking lot. She turned off her car and stepped out, energetic from listening to her favorite Reverend.
The sliding doors opened smoothly as she stepped into the store. Picking up a hand basket, she walked to the cards and began looking through all the different ones. She found some religious birthday cards and narrowed her selection down to just a few, trying to find the one that was perfect for her father. After a few minutes of deliberating, she picked the less gaudy one, the one that had her fathers favorite verse and taking the envelope, put it in her basket.
She walked aimlessly around for a while, trying to waste time. She didnt want to go home to her empty apartment so early, so she was in no hurry. She stopped randomly in front of anything that caught her attention. She picked up bottles of perfume and smelled them, and poked through different sizes of candy bars. She walked thoughtfully over to a display of magazines. Looking through all the different titles, she finally found Todays Christian Women and put it under her arm while she leafed through McCalls.
Excuse me, a voice behind her said. She turned around to face the most beautiful man she had ever seen and smiled.
Hi, she said, Am I in your way? He shook his head.
No. I was just wondering if you could point me in the direction of the batteries? He raised his eyebrows in question.
Sure, she said, Follow me.
Whats your name? she asked, leading him across the small store.
Adam, he replied. They made small talk for a while, even after he had found the batteries he needed. The woman knew she should leave soon, but didnt want to abandon such an attractive man.
Im sorry, she began, But I really should be getting home.
Its no problem, he said. Then he grinned, and suddenly, she knew that she wasnt going to desert him. She made her way, separate from him up to the cash register, and put her items on the counter.
Is this all you want, Miss Jackson? the cashier said to her regular customer. The woman nodded, and paid for her things.
Thanks a lot! she said to the cashier, and picked up her bag. She walked out the sliding doors to her car.
As she stood slowly unlocking her front door, she watched Adam circle past his car and come back to hers, as they had silently agreed. They both stepped into the car, and closed the doors. She turned the key and the familiar radio Reverend spoke again.
We have got to witness, my friends. The Lord wants us to teach the younger generation and be witnesses to them, the Reverend Jackson shouted emotionally. You shall not give into temptation, He says. The woman flipped off the radio.
Sorry, Daddy, she whispered and the two drove to her soon un-empty apartment.
