(With apologies to Dr. Seuss) Every child down in fun town liked Halloween a lot But the Grinch who lived just north of fun town did NOT! The Grinch hated Halloween The whole Halloween season Now please don’t ask why You all know the reason The Grinch was a zealot with a brain that was tight A brain in a head that wasn’t screwed on quite right But the biggest reason of them all Was that his heart was waaaaay too small But whatever the reason His heart or his brain He always viewed Halloween as a serious pain Staring down from his pulpit with a sour Grinch frown At the scary haunted houses below in fun town For he knew every family in fun town below Was making a Jack O lantern with a candle that glowed “And they’re hanging their spiders” he said with a sneer “Tomorrow is Halloween, it’s practically here!” On a holy book with his Grinch fingers angrily thumping “I MUST find a way to keep Halloween from coming!” For tomorrow he knew… All the little girls and boys Would be out bright and early with Halloween toys And then the noise. Oh the noise Oh the noise, noise noise! That’s one thing he hated the NOISE NOISE NOISE! Then the kids young and old would sit down to a feast They’d feast and they’d feast and they’d feast They’d feast on M&Ms and Hershey bars in the shape of beasts Which is something the Grinch couldn’t stand in the LEAST! And then They’d do something he liked least of all Every kid down in Fun Town The tall and the small Would stand close together with Halloween songs ringing They’d stand hand in hand and the kids would start singing They’d sing and they’d sing And they’d SING SING SING And the more the Grinch thought of the Kid Halloween Sing The more the Grinch thought. “I must stop this whole thing!” “Why for fifty-three years I’ve put up with it now” “I must stop Halloween from coming But HOW?” Then he got an idea An AWFUL idea The Grinch got a RIDICULOUS IDIOTIC DUMB idea “I know just what to do” the Grinch started to say “I’ll spread the word that Halloween is a heathen holiday” And he chuckled and clucked “What a great Grinchy trick That’ll stop the whining of those little pricks” “All I need is a haunted house” The Grinch looked around But since he didn’t celebrate Halloween There was none to be found Did that stop the old Grinch? No the Grinch simply said “Since I don’t have a haunted house I’ll make one instead” So he took this old building and filled it with dead Scary images from TV news meant to evoke dread THEN He put out a press release Invited people to come “Come to my haunted house it sure is fun!” And so the kids came thinking “this sure will rock” But when they arrived they were in for a shock! The Haunted House was not a place of scary fun But a house of things that made them feel undone Images of suicides, murder and death filled the air Not the fun kind of scares delivered without a care The kids were upset and went to their mom The Grinch came out and said, “Your beliefs are wrong Halloween is Satanic, the devil’s tool If you do not realize that you must be a fool Decorations like that invite evil spirits They’ll invade your kids and there’s no way to cure it And all of that candy It’ll make the kids sick That’s not a treat parents that’s a trick It’s for the dentists that Satan shills Nothing they love more than higher bills If you really want to be enlightened then join my crusade The parents applauded and took the kids home And told them that they were no longer permitted to roam Freely on October 31st Because they now believed the worst No more decorations, no more candy Halloween parties are no longer fun and dandy Fun is illegal because the price is too high It’ll keep you from that place in the sky And so the Grinch’s plan worked Halloween was no more That wonderful day was now quite a bore The fun was now gone with the wind Childhood innocence may soon come to an end And the Grinch with an evil grin on his face Said, “Anything I don’t like I’ll erase”.
