Pros:Great theme rooms & decor for kids, pool was awesome
Cons:rooms are small, food court is expensive, bus lines can get long
The Bottom Line: It's a great place to stay with little kids with brightly themed rooms and giant-size characters. The pool is fun and the food court plentiful. Staff is helpful and knowledgeable.
My husband and I took our 2 children (ages 4 and 2) to Disney in July of 2001. We stayed in the Toy Story building of the All Star Movies Resort in DisneyWorld. They were awestruck the second we got out of the car. The 3 story tall Buzz Lightyear and Woody elicited "wow, they're huge" from my 4 year old. Each of the different buildings is a different theme, Dalmations, Mighty Ducks, Fantasia...something for everyone.
The rooms were pretty standard fare, a bit on the small side, but very clean and nicely decorated in the theme of the building. The bathroom was especially tight, but we didn't spend a lot of time in the room anyway, so we didn't really care. It fit the four of us just fine for about $99/night.
Checkin was easy. They were very accommodating as to what building we wanted. The refrigerator was brought up within an hour of our arrival. The front desk was very helpful with information like where is the nearest grocery store, and what time the buses came.
My kids loved the Fantasia pool. Mickey squirts water up out of a fountain-like thing into the main pool. It is a rather large pool and there were lots of lounge chairs even during the crowded times. There is also a kiddie pool with a spouting whale that kids can climb on. The playground was also nice, but I could've lived without the sand!!!
Transportation to the parks was as expected, crowded. The buses ran every 20 minutes and we frequently had to stand up. It was no better or worse than any of the other resorts as far as the buses go, but the lines did tend to get rather long first thing in the morning.
The food court offered quite a variety of things to eat, but was a bit pricey as is everything at Disney! It did sell individual pieces of fruit and beverages which was great for my picky eaters.
Overall we were very pleased with our stay at the All STar Movies resort. Next time we will save some extra $$ and stay on the monorail line, but for those traveling on a budget, this is one of the better ways to go, especially with little kids!
