The Bottom Line See my other Anime Movie reviews as well!
Ah, well...it's been a while since I've reviewed or even (gasp!) watched any Anime. My girlfriend doesn't like it so that means it's low on my movies-to-see list. However, I recently watched Initial D again at a friend's house and it motivated me to write another "top 10" list. So here we go! ------------------------------------------------------------ Armitage III - Thirds, an odd name - but they are the newest release of human-like robots. Character Ross Sylibus is thrown into a situation he does not want to confront, and a dangerous situation it is. He's recently lost his partner in Chicago and now finds himself partnered with another woman - Armitage the Third. She may be beautiful, but the death she deals out is astonishing. Armitage may be robotic, but she still bleeds. Armitage III has lots of violence and some nudity and lots of profanity. Not a good choice for young children. Enjoyable for older crowds. Detective Conan - Here's a series that most haven't heard of. The Anime club at the local community college was playing this. It has some violence but that's about it. Think Hardy Boys with this one. Kudou Shinichi, the soccer playing Sherlock Holmes wanna-be, is an odd high school student that finds himself investigating the "Men In Black" a group of people that have much to hide. This is an entertaining series, check it out if you like a mystery type show. Jubei-Chan: Secret of the Lovely Eyepatch - Lame title, but interesting storyline. How long would it take to find a swordsman of unmatchable skill? More than 300 years? Apparently so...Yagui Jubei instructed his servant to locate such a swordsman...or woman? Yes, it seems that Nanohana Jiyu is that person Jubei requested. She's just your average Junior High school girl. But, wouldn't you rather wear a pink eyepatch shaped like a heart and be the greatest swordsman on earth! Sure! Well, tune in for some exciting episodes of Jubei-Chan! Fushigi Yugi (The Mysterious Play) - You may have heard of manga artist Yu Watase, he's the creator this series. Miaka Yuki, is applying for admission to the Jonan Academy. Hopefully, she won't fall asleep and fail all of her classes! One day, with her friend Yui Hongo, the find a very interesting (and mysterious) book at the National Library. But upon reading the book, the two are drawn into an ancient time - olden day China! Nazca - This fantasy/action movie starts out 500 years in the past when the Inca Empire erupts into a major, and bloody, civil war. Fast forward to modern Japan where Kyoji Miura discovers that he is the reincarnated soul of an Incan warrior. Luckily, Tate (Kyoji's teacher and friend) is also a reincarnated soul. The future lies in Kyoji's hands - does he have what it takes to save the world? This is a fun to watch movie with some good fight scenes. Now And Then, Here And There - In any desert the most prized commodity is water. The same holds true in Heryud, where most try to live peacefully and one tries to gain control of the world. Lala-ru has a magical pendant that allows her to control water as she desires, she is the key to the evil Hamdo's plans. Hamdo is an unstable dictator that steals from others. Lala-ru escapes Heryud, and subsequently Hamdo, and finds Matsutanni Shuu. Shuu tries to save Lala-ru when she gets taken back to Heryud by Hamdo but ends up in another world. Sol Bianca - Traveling among the stars, trading and such, piracy has once again emerged. The most infamous ship is the Sol Bianca, crewed by five women. They occupy themselves by stealing from the rich and keep all the goodies. Theirs is the only ship that can go into and out of hyperspace without a portal, this gives them a distinct advantage over the "competition." There's a lot of good action here. You're Under Arrest - Two very different female cops partnered up to fight crime in Japan. It's never been sweeter to be told, "You're Under Arrest!" Kobakawa Miyuki and Tsujimoto Natsumi are officers in the Bokuto Precinct of the Highway Patrol working Tokyo. Their adventures are interesting and often humerous - especially when it comes to the cross-dressing cop... Video Girl Ai - Moteuchi Yota is in love with a girl from school - Moemi. She, however, is not only unaware but she's also in love with someone else. The major twist comes when Yota visits a local video store and picks up a "lonely guy" video. Well, this is like no other video, the girl comes to life - steps right out of the TV screen. The return date is a whole month away and that gives Yota some interesting opportunities. There's nudity, sexual encounters, and some violence. In other words - all the good stuff! Warriors Of The Wind - War comes to the residents of the Valley of Wind. Now they are in the middle of a conflict that threatens to consume the entire planet. The outlying land is toxic and it's effects are taking a toll on the Vally of Wind. Nausicaa, heir to the throne of the Valley, learns that things are often more difficult than they seem. Luckily, she's a capable and strong ruler. ------------------------------------------------------------ Final Comments: These are hopefully some movies that you haven't seen and probably haven't heard of. If you check them out, I hope you enjoy them. You have to watch an Anime movie with a certain frame of mind. If you haven't ever watched Anime, be prepared for something completely different from American films, especially American cartoons. They just don't compare.
