jk,
s&t is sometimes sold for free with a mfg rebate (minus taxes on the original price) by some retailers, like compusa. it is basically a giveaway item. mappoint is the same as s&t, but just goes one step further by offering data mapping capabilities. this add'l function, for $200, is the gist of mappoint. not needed unless your business requires it.
I don't know about gate's earlier days. Pictures I've seen of him show a skinny dorky looking kid with big glasses. Now, living on billions of dollars, he has fattened up quite a bit with a trophy wife to boot.
thanks for your comments, btw, i was surfing around and noticed "mauriced" profile pic. not a bad likeness wouldn't you say? :)

a great job... (Reply to this comment)

...as your software reviews always are. As a S&T 2001 user I found this especially helpful.
Bill used to spend more time on stage. I remember the Exchange 'launch' in 1994 in Seattle. (Basically, they had a late alpha. It was their usual fare: "Don't buy Notes, because we will someday publish this and then where will you be?")
His voice cracked several times. He was running/demoing under WfW 3.11 and I had to resist the urge (which would surely have seen me thrown out) to stand up, raise my hand and ask: "Excuse me, please, Mr. Gates... may I ask a question? Would you mind going to /Help/About so we can see how the system resources stand?"
I shoulda done it.
