| Acarian's Full Review: Logitech Camera Family |
Good news, I did not really buy this web cam from the Logitech family. Actually obtained it from buying a Compaq--Presario Internet PC. Sometimes I am rather slow at figuring out things and did not even realize I actually got a hold of this little web cam thingy till I opened the box. That is after taking the computer out and assembling it.
Okay, my first impression of this little neat ball and a view window was, WOW, okay it is free whatever it happens to be. Yeah your right it is a web cam simple as ever could be. Just joking do not be fooled by this little web cam your in for some big surprises and some big disappoints might I add on.
I tore open the box with my entire strength guess you could say this little web cam ball intrigued me. I mean it was just so small and compact how cool!
Proceeding to the directing I skimmed over them to get a little more familiar with the whole web cam deal.
Setup
I'm not a rocket Scientist and could get the software properly installed within two tries. So to most assurance, no one should have much trouble installing this thing.
1. Take web cam out of mini-box.
2. Remove CD software and insert in cd-rom drive.
3. After you do this a pop-up window should come up and it will take you through the installation process where you basically tell which features you want installed and where you want them to be.
4. Your computer will then be restarted after saving changes.
5. Most final step, simply plug in your web cam cord in the socket specified. Not sure where it is? Check out your computer user Manuel for a little needed guidance.
Umm, Ok so that was not too hard. But still once I got this web cam thing installed the problems started turning up. More like little but annoying problems arise only after the first time using it.
Problems
I will openly admit this web cam is nothing but "totally hip and cool." For one I do not prefer a picture of myself taken where it looks like I am some sort of alien with no eyeballs. Just to name one of the many keeps on going down.
1. Grainy pictures yuck- There is no way to avoid it, this web cam is sure to give you grainy and distorted pictures.
2. Blurry, Blurry- The Logitech quick cam always seemed to be blurry after even adjusting the camera lense the best I possibly could simply no change.
3. High saturation levels- Yep that's right there is so much saturation in these pictures it is almost impossible to make out face details.
4. Awful lighting- To get the most out of the web cam the lighting in the room has to be perfect (and I mean PERFECT). I highly recommend a combination of sunlight and room light to level out the color hues.
After making this sound like the web cam from hell, I just had to relieve myself of the so many bad points of this web cam. While it is more of the web cam itself that accumulates the problems, the software remains to be sort of fun then again having more useful options.
Software (Included)
Yes it might just get a little better.
Features:
1. Snapshot/Video- You have the option of snapping your own pictures and videos.
2. Share- You can create your own online photo album so all your family and friends can see. Also can send videos and pictures to people too.
3. Edit- Always opens to edit your photos, and resize and reduce saturation (A++ for better quality).
4. Adjust- Feel free to try and adjust your web cam while it might not do much maybe making it lighter in the room or reducing the saturation could determine the choice of either a good or bad picture.
The Picture
Sense I did not pay for this web cam, I cannot really put the entire fault on it. But still if I had gone out of my way to spend $150 on this thing, I would be very disappointed in what I would experience. Overall, the software was fair, but the web cam itself was cheep and simply a waste of time. The pictures turned out grainy, and out of focus. And I do not exactly like the idea of me with no eyes, so I will stick with my Intel Digital Camera for my primary pictures these days.
My final decision
I made up my mind that I would give the camera to my niece, she seems to get a real kick out of it. The good thing about kids is they can appreciate even the smallest favors. I felt good knowing it would be in the hands of someone that would enjoy it more than me. Openly admitting I am a rather picky person when it comes to buying products they absolutely have to be a grade A+ or even better on a higher level.
And whenever I come over to pay a visit, she always shows me the newest videos, one of my favorite being "Elmo go's to kindergarten."
To be openly honest obtaining this web cam did in one way a lost and then one way a gain know I gave it to someone that would use it. Since, I have learned to forget about the web cam but keep my memories by my side.
Whatever you plan on doing just remember this web cam is not worth the 150 dollars retail price, but free it is a mediocre deal. If you are looking for a high quality web cam these days, be sure to fork out a few extra hundred dollars which might be the conclusion to finding a high-quality and reliable web cam.
