Hotwire nabbed my $237, and I got nothing

Pros: Similar to Priceline, and you can see the fare details before buying
Cons: A no-committments middleman that will happily screw you and keep your money

The Problem Definitely Isn't Hotwire (Reply to this comment)

Actually, it does tell you before hand that if you miss a flight in your reservation, the airline will cancel the remainder of your itinerary. In fact, it states that directly above the box that says "I read, understood, and accept the terms of use" that you have to check BEFORE you hit the purchase button. Had you actually read that, this situation would have been different. I have had nothing but good experiences with hotwire because of the fact that I actually read the terms of use. This is why you are asked to agree to it before you purchase. You cannot blame hotwire because you lied and said you read the terms when in fact, you did not. There is no way you could have and still have written a review such as this.
I'm not trying to be rude, but point out the facts. It is like any contract, you read things before you sign anything. You read the terms of use before purchasing. You can't purchase on hotwire unless you check that box. There are circumstances that you can get a refund under, but you must provide proof, like anything that is obviously non-refundable. The company itself is actually owned by the airlines, so who do you think makes these rules?
It is true that if you are not flexible, it's not a good idea to by a ticket on hotwire. It is also true that it makes that fact perfectly clear before purchasing.

I'm sorry I didn't read your review earlier (Reply to this comment)

I had a very nasty Customer Service Supervisor tell me that because I have a junk mail block on my email I wasn't notified of a flight cancellation. I was told that they had no duty to try and call me or otherwise try and reach me. As a result I didn't find out that I had a worthless e-ticket for a flight that was taken out of service four months earlier.

I don't really think this is a hotwire problem... (Reply to this comment)

Hi there,
I enjoyed your review, but gave it a sh, because I don't think that it really reviews hotwire as a whole.
Cancelling the whole ticket when a passenger doesn't show up for the first leg of a trip is pretty standard for airlines. I agree with you though; I do think that it should be something that is common knowledge. Instead, it is not, and people are left in the lurch.
I'm sorry to hear you had such a horrible trip. Perhaps you should let the airline know about this situation instead of expecting something from Hotwire. I hate to say it though, airlines generally aren't that nice to you once they find out you have purchased through a discount place.

The problem is you, not Hotwire (Reply to this comment)

It sounds like you travel frequently. If so, then you should already know that is how Airlines treat tickets. You said yourself that you had never tried the "hidden leg," but you knew that it was not an acceptable practice. So, why didn't you call AA to check on that? If there was any question at all in your mind, why wouldn't you call the airline? Since you did not take some responsibility for your actions, you then expected full service travel agency help from a discount agent.

I have never had ANY travel agent warn me that a second leg would be canceled if I missed the first. Have you? Why should Hotwire tell you that?
