The Bottom Line: Sony could have done a better job with this satellite receiver. It's slow and does not live up to the Sony name.

To put it simply, I love my DirecTv service, but I don't like my Sony Satellite receiver. The main reason being that it is really slow at times. If I want to see the schedule five hours later, it takes quite while before it gets the programming from the satellite and displays it. I think that this is due to low internal memory. Another thing I don't like is that the channels do not come in instantly. Sometimes it can take up to 4 seconds for it to come in, and that is way to long! The same goes for the program description. It can take a while for the synopsis of the show to be displayed.
The thing I do like about this satellite receiver is that it is easy to use. The favorite list is easy to setup, and the entire system is easy to configure. Also there is a LED light on the satellite that flashes faster when you have reached a better signal. This is useful when you are adjusting your dish.
The sound is average with this receiver, better than with cable, but it is not great. The picture is very good, especially if you take advantage of the S-Video connection (which I highly recommend). This connections makes the picture crisper and takes away the analog "fuzz." Look for the S-Video connection on the model you purchase. Your TV must be able to support this function as well.
Overall I do not recommend this satellite system. While Directv is great, this satellite receiver should not be the one bringing it into your home. You can do much better with other brands on the market. Sony could have done a better job with this satellite receiver. It's slow and does not live up to the Sony name. Maybe this is because Sony does not actually make this satellite receiver. They just put their name on it.
