The Bottom Line Honorable mention to: Near Dark, PHANTASM, What Lies Beneath, The Others, VAMP, Carrie & Misery, sure I will think of more the moment I post this!

10.) GHOST STORY with Douglas Fairbanks Jr. The story of a young man haunted by a beautiful woman. He loved her, she dissappears, he returns home for a funeral only to discover that she is linked to his father and his friends in a very scary and disturbing way. Jealousy, lust and plain old nasty revenge make this a must see!
The opening scene is a shocker!

9.) EVIL DEAD 2 I awoke to this classic late one Halloween evening. I caught it a few minutes into the story, but soon the story didnt matter. I was gripping the arms of my chair and wishing that there was someone, ANYONE! home to escort me to the restroom. I couldnt sleep, I couldnt move. It terrified me. The woodshed! The evil, lust filled shrubs! That's right I said shrubs! Dont forget about the girl locked in the basement! Terrifying. Makes you want to never ever go into the woods again.

8.)NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (BLACK AND WHITE ORIGINAL)
Directed by Goerge Romero~
Do I really need to set this one up? A family is trapped in a remote farmhouse. Somehow the dead are rising and they are hungry for warm human flesh. Pure sheer zombie terror! Keep your eyes on the little girl in the basement! The update with Tony Todd is a poor remake, the black and white will make you paranoid and more than a a little frightened.
Their is a sequel called Return of the living Dead based around a group of punk kids trapped in a mortuary after one of the groups bone-headed boyfriend unleashes the deadly virus that started it all. BRAINS!!!

7.) THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT
Okay, I admit there was alot of hype about this one. It deserved it. Isolate yourself, put this in and then try to imagine what the characters in the movie are going through. An ambitious documentary student and two film maker friends set out to make a movie about a local legend. They soon find themselves lost, without food and fresh water. They start to be harrased by unseen forces. A horrible force attacks there tent while they sleep. Group tension and lack of food brings things to a boil. Soon they lose a member and dread sets in. You know what is going to happen but the way it happens makes you shiver. A good one.
A TIP!! Turn off all the lights and make sure that you have the sound turned WAY UP so that you can hear all the sounds in the forest.

6.) SHATTERED with Sharon Stone, Tom Berenger and Joanne Whalley-Kilmer
I dont think this movie even ranks as a horror. More of a thriller really. A husband and wife are in a terrible car crash. It destroys the husbands face but through plastic surgery he regains his handsome face and his life. But no memory of his previous life. Things start to not make sense and the events that lead him to the truth about the crash and his wife are horrifying. The shocker in the salvage yard is gory and a real twister!

5.) THE SIXTH SENSE
Another classic that needs no intro. A little boy sees spirits. He doesnt tell anyone because he doesnt want to make his mother's difficult existence any worse. Bruce Willis plays his psychologist. Pay attention, it is worth the strain. Fantastic movie!

4.) THE CHANGELING with George C. Scott
Fantastic ghost/murder story. Stars his wife-at-the-time. It centers on man that has lost his wife and child in a horrible auto accident. He moves to another city and rents a beautiful historic mansion. Soon after moving in he discovers why he got the place so cheap. Atmosphere! There is no gore in this one, it is a solid tingler for anyone that likes to get the chills. Watch for the wheelchair on the staircase!

3.) THE EXORCIST with Linda Blair
A little girl is possesed by a demon that claims to be the devil himself. Her mother waits, unwilling to give up on her daughter. She takes some serious emotional and mental battery. She faces humiliation and sheer pure evil. If you rent the DVD watch for the added scenes. The one on the staircase made people leave the theater when I went to see the re-release. The hairs stood up on my arms.
Great scary movie. I loved it! I still find it hard to look at the screen when I see Linda Blairs' face.

2.) THE RING~ starring Naomi Watts~ American version
Wow, was I ever suprised by this movie. I expected alot of gore. What I got was a movie that stayed with me for a while. I couldnt sleep in the dark. I just couldnt get the images in the film out of my head.
I HAVE NOT seen the Japanese original but I hear that it is even better than the American remake.

A reporter in Seattle learns that an urban legend about a sinister video tape seems to be true. She investigates after her niece is killed. Soon she is on the list of soon to be victims. It all circles around a mysterious woman and her daughter, Samara. The race to find an answer is great, shocking, gut wrenching fun! A shocker ending leaves you with a chill and a bad taste in your mouth. At the end ask yourself, what would you do to save yourself?

***1 and a half*** A TIE~
The Shining and ALIEN 1&2
FIRST~Jack Nicholson gone psycho in a haunted lodge in the middle of nowhere. Shelly Duvall is at her screaming, anorexic best. Wonderful movie, incredible book!
SECOND~Sigourney Weaver trapped in space with a horrible alien race that wipes out her crew and chases her to the very end. Wonderful, gut wrenching suspense.

1.) THE PRINCE OF DARKNESS with Alice Cooper
Most people probably will disagree with me about this one. I have seen this movie twice and that was two times two many. It is cheesy at times but the idea behind it gets me. There is an old church with a giant (ancient) canister in the basement. It is leaking UP! the drip is forming a giant puddle of green fluid on the ceiling of the basement. Poltergeist activities begin soon after the team arrives to investigate. A few of the women see something move in the canister. It is downhill from there. Shocking, terrifying. Leaves you with that "What if?" The final scene with the guy in bed dreaming is almost too much for me to think about.
PLUS it was banned from many theaters across the country. What does that tell you???!!
