.. the jungle V.I.P. Ahhh, I still love that. Great to see you mention The Aristocats, that was always my favourite growing up. I've seen and enjoyed almost all of your list, loved A Bug's Life and Antz but haven't seen Finding Nemo... me bad.
Great list!

Very well written top 10 list.
Okay so you forgot Pinnochio and probably haven't seen the uncut Heavy Traffic or considered Who Framed Roger Rabbit properly.
Good list.

Re: Good review but... (Reply to this comment)

I did enjoy Lion King and Ice Age is well up in my list, but as you alluded to, cutting it down to ten movies is nigh on impossible...
I hadn't actually thought about how well they translated - as I've only seen the English ones I couldn't really say, but it's an interesting point.
Antz is a bit hard for kids in the main, but this is my list and I loved it! :-)
Thanks for commenting.

Good review but... (Reply to this comment)
by bracero5
You definitely missed The Lion King - although I have to admit making a top ten is very difficult. My top two are Lion King and Ice Age. Finding Nemo is beautiful but when you translate it into other languages (other than English) the movie isn't as good, whereas my top two stay fresh and faithful to its meaning.
These are USA movies of course, but if a movie trascends and can be fully enjoyed and appreciated in its context by say, kids in another country (who know nothing about American culture) then that movie is a classic. For example, Antz is great but kids might get lost (i.e. socio-political remarks/jokes). I guess the best criteria for children/animated movies is if both adult and child are captivated by the movie from beginning to end.
That's just my opinion. Good review.

I have to agree (Reply to this comment)
by cosmoandgunner
with most of the movies you picked. I will say that when the mean/sad/bad part come up like Dumbo getting spanked makes me mad enough not to watch it again. Bambi too. But I am a softy also.
The only one I would add is The Little Mermaid. I still want to watch this one every once and a while.
I need to see Antz and Nemo. Nemo's in on it way to me and Antz I just never got the chance. Maybe I'll rent it.
Nicely done =D

On Carl's heartless condition...

Go to the very first comment. You'll see why!!
I kept thinking of other great cartoons after I'd posted this - "Osmosis Jones" stands out as being very funny (well it's voiced by Chris Tucker and David Hyde-Pearce so that's no surprise) and also very original... I think I'll have to do a list of the top 20...

The Aristocats! (Reply to this comment)

I have seen this dozens of times. Not out of choice, mind you, but I've seen it nonetheless. And it grows on you, I think. Good to see it here. I love A Bug's Life, too.
Also, I was not aware that Carl had neither heart nor soul. This is good information to have. Exceptionally helpful.....:)

Nice List... (Reply to this comment)

There are some on here that I haven't seen yet and I can use this list to remind me to rent them. Nice work, indeed. Bambi is one of my favorite films, period. The artistry throughout is superb but especially in the rain storm and forest fire scenes. Amazing what they were able to do way back when. The music is awesome, too. Like you said about little Flower the skunk, the characters are wonderful. They're unforgettable. Thanks for reminding me. Think I'll pop this one in right now!

Top Ten Animated Films (Reply to this comment)
by skbreese, in Movies
I agree that the 3-D animation on Finding Nemo is fabulous. However, the story, I felt, was not as strong as some other animated films I have seen, and the music was mediocre. I still prefer Beauty And The Beast and The Lion King because of the combination of great storylines, music and animation. I also like The Nightmare Before Christmas for it's quirkiness. Interesting list though. Sheila
