True: Live, Love, Learn or Lots of Lost Income.

True has the subtitle Live Love Learn, but I haven’t found anything on that site that has helped me learn anything except that I wasted $50. I sure haven’t found love, expect maybe if I was interested in replying to random “winks” from 19 year old 3 states away. We will ignore that my profile clearly states no one under the age of 24, I had it at 25 but found ZERO hits and 20 miles.
Shortly after signing up because I wanted to e-mail one person, and not getting a response I tried to cancel my membership, instead I got another month for “free” of course at $50, it will take 3 months to even come close to what I use to pay for a single month at Yahoo.com personals.
I am trying to think about what I hate least about this site:
NOTHING, I really really really hate this site. Maybe I should list what I hate in a free form way and then go back and rank them.
PAGE LOADS: Slow and stalls (5)
Matches: Few and far between (4)
Cost: Way too much (1)
Customer Service: have to call to cancel can’t do it online (3)
Profiles: All the people that match me are blank profiles, I paid $50 for this (6)
Search: Searching based on your profile requires two links, see Page Loads (2)
Winks: People you have no interest in can “wink” for free, if I wanted that I’d have a MYSPACE PAGE (7)
Well that was hard I had 3 number twos….
So they all got moved up.
How I signed up
My firewall crashed and burned, in the process it took my PC with it. I wasn’t able to get any internet access, because the firewall was damaged, in the end I decided since my subscription was almost expired I would go back to Zone Alarm. While at ZoneAlarm I noticed I could get anti-virus and zonealarm pro for free if I signed up for True.com, it was 2 AM and I had spent 4 hours restoring my laptop so my thought process were not at 100% I assumed it would be $19.95 since 2 years ago the last time I tried on-line personals that is what I paid. Imagine my surprise when I saw the credit card bill of $49.95.
I do not know who’s fault this is, I assume had I looked somewhere I would have seen the price, so I will not blame them for my mistake. But I am also assuming that the price wasn’t in big blinking letters saying ONLY $49.95 a month or $1,248.75 a year (puts it into perspective doesn’t it).
OK so I get my credit card bill and I decide this is a waste o’ money and tried to cancel, not as easy as you think, give it a chance they say, we will give you a free month (meaning I better remember to cancel, or I’ll be out another $50).
Registration
The registration process asks you questions about youself and then who you are looking for. There are a few areas you can write free style about your desires and who you are. It seems that most people on a free account don’t fill in this area, leaving you with nothing more than their hair color and level of education.
Search
As a 30 year old male, with a BA I don’t think it is asking too much for a woman close to my own age that isn’t proud she is working on her GED, but low and behold in my area, they say, I shouldn’t be so picky.
The default “quick search” is worthless. To avoid the 28 year old female that is working on her GED, I have to click ADVANCE search and then click SEARCH again. If I didn’t already hate this site I am sure this poorly designed layout wouldn’t be such a big deal, but heck at $50 a month (I am harping aren’t I), I want the searches I paid for, not the searches you want me to get.
Communication
Well it has been three weeks and I’ve sent 2 e-mail and received no replies so I can’t tell you much about THAT process. I can tell you I get a few “winks” to my personal e-mail box. These Winks are always from young girls from other states that I have no interest in and don’t know why they are wasting my time.
Too be fair
I am currently living in a small town population 100,000 ish, so MAYBE I would have better luck in Chicago with 3 Million people to reject me.
