StewLeonards.com is actually a brochureware store that tells you about the amazing history of a Connecticut institution. Stew Leonards is the World's Largest Dairy Farm, and features one of the best in-store experiences of any food store I've ever been in. If you have small children and live near Danbury, Norwalk, or Newington CT or Yonkers, NY, its worth a trip. Not only are the produce and bakery items fresher than anywhere else, your children will love meeting the Daisy Duck and others - characters that roam the store. They'll be captivated by the singing and dancing banana and cartons of milk or the trains that run overhead. You'll love to try the tasty in store samples of cheeses and meats, and you will rave about the quality of all the products.
StewLeonards.com doesn't sell products, but it features recipes, in store calendars, and the history that I mentioned - a riveting read, as this store is half Whole Foods half Disney! You can also see where the devoted customers of the store have taken their Stew's bags (the Great Wall of China, DC, etc).
StewLeonards links to another website called StewLeonardsGifts.com (though some of the pages on this site can be found at SL.com). This site sells combination baskets of the great cheese, nuts and fruit you can find in the store. You can also buy popcorn tins. They're extremely reasonable in price and arrive promptly. The selection is okay - there are about 50 options to choose from. After you choose your basket, you're asked to fill in shipping and billing information to check out. Overall, it's a very smooth process. You don't have to set up an account to buy, so the Insider gives Stew's a check on this one!
