Glenn Hoddle, England's football (soccer) manager some time ago got into trouble for voicing his belief in reincarnation (not so much that, but the idea that disabled people were being punished in this life etc...). Much of the inspiration for this mini-saga also comes from a Far Side cartoon, where a small lizard stops on a rock and says: "There it is again! That unaccountable feeling that in a past life I was Shirley Temple".
