Milesource: Great rewards program--but what about free airline / airplane flights?

The Bottom Line
|Site Ease of Use:
|Effort vs. Reward:
Reliable rewards program. Compared to others, rewards add up pretty quickly. Great rewards.
In the world of rewards programs, Milesource is quickly becoming a main player. A few months ago, it was one of the lesser known sites, but now it's climbing high... and fast!
If you already do rewards programs, you know the deal: Basically, you collect "points" and then redeem them for free stuff. It's a win-win situation. They get good payment for advertising, and you get free stuff for looking at the ads.
Milesource is a reliable rewards program that has a decent reputation. In fact, it's one of the quickest ways to earn rewards on the web. But, if you're looking for free flights, don't hold your breath. Set your sites a little lower... and you might get free magazines, free videos, free dinner, what have you. I've listed all the details below.
Want to earn free stuff? Then definitely check out this site. There are several different ways to earn:
Just join the program. Get 1,000 award miles instantly (not bad, when a free year's subscription to Reader's Digest costs only 2500 awardmiles).
Answer the about me survey. Make a quick 100 awardmiles. The deal's only good once, but 100 miles is 100 miles. Go to the bottom of the click fix page.
Click fix. Ready to click on some ads? Just go to the "click fix" header and get started. You'll receive between 1-2 awardmiles just for clicking an ad. And you can do each one---once a day, every day. You can probably earn about 30 miles here each day.
Movie Fone/Mile Mall. If you're willing to do a little research (maybe 2 minutes worth), you can earn an extra 4 awardmiles a day by answering two trivia questions. It's a little like an open-book exam. These questions are located at the top of the Click fix page.
Refer your friends. Okay, want to earn some good prizes? Tell your friends about milesource and have them join under your link. (Sorry--can't post mine here, it doesn't seem right, but you can see it on my web site). You'll earn 10% of all awardmiles that your friends earn (except the initial 1000 awardmiles).
(I just think that's such a clever name.) Sign up for sweepstakes, newsletters, whatever, and you'll earn more awardmiles--just make sure that the service is free, don't give out your credit card or soc security number, etc.
And, of course, there's the big one: shopping. General rule of thumb, if you're going to shop on line ANYWAY, then go for it!! Might as well get a nice fat award while you're at it. But don't shop on-line unless you were already going to---then you're losing money!
If you shop on line anyway, make sure you go through your favorite site. If you don't support them, they'll go out of business--and then they won't be there anymore.
Each day, milesource hosts a trivia contest. Answer all three questions correctly, and your name gets thrown in the pot for extra awards miles. Then they pull out some names and give them extra miles.
I generally get the questions right, but I haven't earned any awards miles gifts yet. Oh well.
Like to play games? Milesource has some cool games that you can play... solitaire, sports trivia, flighttower, mile-mix. As far as I can tell, they're just for fun... no awardmiles prizes.
Prizes / Redeeming your Awardmiles
So now I'll cut to the chase. You want to know what the prizes are, right?
After 2000 miles, you are instantly eligible for a bunch of software CDs: Webster's Dictionary, Physician's Home Assistant, Home Improvement stuff, games. There's a pretty big selection, but I really wasn't interested in them.
After 2500 miles, the prizes get a little better. Basically, you can get a free full years' subscription to your favorite magazine (only the ones they list): Newsweek, family circle, reader's digest, etc. They also have a ton of movie tickets, and $25 gift certificates for places in Canada only.
After 3500 miles, you get $25 gift certificates for a variety of places: SuperCertificates, which you can use anywhere; discounts off many airline tickets; 2 years subscription to the less expensive magazines (like Woman's Day) or a one years' subscription to more expensive magazines like PC magazine or US News and World Reports, or $25 discounts off hotels or car rental.
After 4500 miles, you get gift certificates valued at $50.
After 6000 miles, you get prizes valued at between $50 and $100---super certificates, discounts to disney world, etc.
Between 10,000 and 25,000 miles, the prizes get really good: $125-$150 super certificate, CD player, select sharper image stuff, a weekend night at the Hyatt, binoculars, $200 off a vacation package of $399 or more
Between 25,000 and 50,000 miles, you get FREE round trip tickets anywhere in the (48) US! Or cool stereo stuff! Or a three night hotel package, plus 50 in traveler's checks. or one week's car rental. yeah!
After 50,000, you get serious: free round trip tickets anywhere in the (48) US, mexico, carribean, canada, hawaii, etc. OR a free 3 day cruise OR free 7 night cruise, etc., etc.
Warning: Winning the big stuff is rare!!! Join, it's free! Then go for the smaller prizes.... Or, play big, and take a trip!!
NOTE: This is NOT like frequent flier miles: You do NOT earn award miles for traveling UNLESS you buy your tickets, etc through Milesource!
