Star Wars / ID4 (Reply to this comment)
by dg8672
The line "it just impacted on the surface" is definitely from Star Wars.
Right after Red leader says "Negative, negative, it didnt go in" they cut to Luke in his X-Wing and Red Leader's next line is heard over Luke's radio: "It just impacted on the surface."
Also, the "who's more foolish" line is definitely Ben.
When the 'heroes' are climbing out of the smuggling compartments in the falcon, Han makes a comment about not being able to take off because of the tractor beam. The following exchange takes place:
Ben: Leave that to me.
Han: Damn fool, I knew you were gonna say that!
Ben: Who's more foolish? The fool or the fool who follows him?

The best line in The Three Amigos was... (Reply to this comment)

"Tequila? Oh, it's like beer"...
That whole sequence was great. The bartender starts with: "Beer, we don't have no beer here."
"What do you have?"
"Tequila"
"What's Tequila?"
"Tequila? Oh, it's like beer."
"Great! Then we'll have three tequilas, please."

Look, you little know-next-to-nothing-newbie! :-P
Seriously, thanks for letting me know - when I next update this I'll be sure to correct it. (I did mention in this one - I think - that they may not all be word perfect!)
Thanks for the comment! :-D

I'm so annoying (Reply to this comment)
by pyrexita
Sorry, I'm just a know-next-to-nothing newbie, but the little I do know concerns The Three Amigos, which is an awesome movie, I have to say, I love the sweater scene.
and, I hate to be annoying, but it's Jefe.
"would you say I have a plethora of pinatas, jefe?"
"yes, I would say that"
"do you know what a plethora is, jefe?"
"could it be that you are upset at turning 40 and you are taking it out on me, sir?"
At least, that's what my memory tells me, it's wrong sometimes. Good quotes though, they certainly are memorable.

You made me laugh remembering quite a few movie moments there, Dave. I have a few to add to your fine and funny list:
This one is more amusing if you noticed it twice: Jeff Goldbloom in Jurassic Park and then later in Independence Day, Must go faster, Must go faster!
From Ghostbusters: Dan Akroid, Listen! Do you smell that?
From the Princess Bride: Vizzini Stop that rhyming . . . and I mean it!
Fezzik - Anybody want a peanut?
Vizzinis last words not knowing he just lost the battle of wits and drank poison, You fell victim to one of the classic blunders, the most famous of which is never get involved in a land war in Asia, but only slightly less well known, never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line! Ha ha ha . . . croak
Geez I could spend an hour writing funny lines from that movie alone. Instead I must sleep though.
Thanks for the laughs,
Scott

Erm...
I definitely remember this in Antz, but I can't recall anything like that in Star Wars episode IV...
Guess that means I'll have to watch it again! :-)

"Whos more the fool, the fool or the fool who follows the fool?"
You attribute this to Antz, but Obi-Wan Kenobi says something like this (if not exact) in the first Star Wars (I mean, the first that ever came out)...

Everyone does love Yoda (Reply to this comment)
by awoeonip
I must agree with your placement of Yoda on this list...he's just too witty and funny for him not to make it.
And the LOTR quotes definatly deserved placement on that list.
My own addition to the list: the entire movie Fight Club. Some great poetic lines in there...and some more twisted ones too.
"With a gun barrel between your teeth, you speak only in vowels."
and
"Even the Rislampa wire lamps of environmentally-friendly unbleached paper."

Hmmm.... still not sure... could be Star Wars though... will just have to watch it yet again now to be sure...
Off topic? Hmmm... where else would you put it though? I think it's as on topic as many of the pieces here... but I'm willing to be overuled by the majority... however the majority appears to be with me at the moment...

Hey there!
Trouble was, as soon as I'd posted this, I thought of more!...
Didn't think of your two though - remiss of me...
Will think of doing a W/O, but think I'll see if anyone else joins the one I'm already hosting first! (On my long biog if anyone's interested - it's for "short short" stories - 50 or 100 words).
Thanks!

I can see your point, but to my mind this really is the most relevant place to post (at the moment).
Thanks for your comment though - I'm not really considering revising the placement at the moment, but if any more people think it's off topic then I'll rethink.
Cheers!

That reminds me of another one...
Gimli (through gritted teeth): "I can't make the jump, you'll have to toss me!"
(Aragorn starts to toss him)
Gimli: "Wait.. don't tell the elf."
Aragorn: "Not a word."

At first I thought "impacted on the surface" was from the Death Star, but actually on second thought, I think you are right, it's from ID4. In Star Wars it's just "Negative. Negative. It didn't go in." But wait a second, maybe it is Star Wars! Darnit, I dont' know. Actually I think that's from Star Wars. I don't believe this, I figured I would remember that. Was it used in both movies? Heh.. anyways.
Tough call on whether this would be off-topic or not, but I have considered doing a movie quotes Epinion of my own (that's a long way off though) and I reckon this is where I'd end up putting it. After all, good quotes sell movies, or else we wouldn't have trailers!
And one more thing...
Legolas: Would you like me to get you a box?
I f*cking LOVE THAT LINE! Gimli's laugh afterwards is positively priceless!

How memorable! (Reply to this comment)
by Donnie013
A lot of really great lines, here, Dave.
One of my favorites is:
"Get the mattresses." from the Godfather just before the war between the families.
Or how about, "I wouldn't even hurt a fly." from Physco.
This was really fun. You should host a write off of such memories.

captaind: I share your delight in the lines, but the category is The Ten Best Movies of all Time. You might encompass the lines with in a discussion of ten of the movies, say in chronological order, if ranking them is a problem.
To my mind, you are Off Topic.
All the best, and let me know if you revise.
