Stop Complaining, Here's How to Access YOUR Voicemail Box With Just One Push!
Dec 21 '03 (Updated May 21 '05)
The Bottom Line Hope that this helps you relieve some stress.
I just reviewed my written review. It is very long and confusing, so here is what your number should look like. Read the instructions below to find out how to get the final result, shown here.
The voicemail box number with the password:
+12142137096pXXX#
The password should be where the "XXX" are, in the above number.
Yeesh! I went to write a review on the SONY Ericsson T616, and I end up reading one of the reviews. This guy is complaining that he can't access his voicemail box directly. Hmm, he says that AT&T needs to keep up with the times. Hm, I hope that he reads this. Here is his review, by the way. It's on the 10th chunk. Oh, and if the guy who wrote this is reading this, I don't mean to pick you out of the crowd, and I'm sorry if you are mad, I just wanted to help others not be frustrated like you.
Okay, first of all, find your voicemail box number on your phone. I don't know where it is for all phones, but I can tell you how to access it for most Nokia's and most SONY Ericsson phones.
NOKIA
For the Nokia, I am using the Nokia 6200 (but the instructions should work for most GSM Nokia's also).
1. Access the "Menu".
2. Access "Messages", or where you normally go to Text Message.
3. Access "Phone Messages".
4. From here, select "Voice Mailbox Number".
SONY ERICSSON
For the SONY Ericsson, I am using the SONY Ericsson T616, (but the instructions should work for most GSM SONY Ericsson's also).
1. Access the "Menu".
2. Access the "Messages".
3. Access the "Options".
4. Access the "Voicemail Number" option.
NOW, AFTER YOU HAVE ACCESSED YOUR VOICEMAIL NUMBER.....
1. Place the cursor at the end of the number.
2. Enter a "P". (See "Entering Special Characters" below)
3. Type in your password.
4. Enter "#".
5. Select "Save", "Okay", or whatever you need to select to save this number.
6. Dial your voicemail to ensure that it works.
Entering Special Characters
Okay, there are several special characters that you can enter into a phone number, to get specific results. Here is a brief explanation of each one, and how to enter them on your phone (Only Nokia and SONY Ericsson explained. Sorry, but I don't have any others with me at the moment to test).
The "P" Character
This character, when entered, "Pauses" two seconds, then sends the tones (numbers you have entered) after this character. You can enter several of these characters together, to get a longer Pause. This can be used to enter passwords, account numbers, or set-up so that you don't have to wait through an automated service, like when you call AT&T for help. See the end of this review in order to see some of my uses of this.
HOW TO ENTER
On a Nokia phone, just press the "*" key three times.
On a SONY Ericsson phone, hold the "7" key down.
The "W" Character
This character is just like the "P" character, except for one difference. Instead of waiting two seconds, like the "P" character, the phone will wait to send the tones until you press a specific button. In other words, you just press when you want the tones sent, and then it will send the tones. Not as automatic as the "P" character, but it still is good.
HOW TO ENTER
On a Nokia phone, just press the "*" key four times.
On a SONY Ericsson phone, this symbol cannot be entered, as far as I know.
The "+" Character
This character is only used when entering an international number. If you have a GSM phone, then you use this symbol in conjunction with a country code number to indicate that you are entering an international symbol (USA is " 1").
HOW TO ENTER
On a SONY Ericsson phone, just hold the "0 (Zero)" key down until the symbol appears.
On a Nokia phone, just press the "*" key two times.
The "*" and "#" Characters
These two characters are only used when entering a service command. The "#", however, can also be used when entering a number into an automated service to verify that you are done, like when you enter your bank account.
HOW TO ENTER THE "*" Character
On a Nokia phone, just press the "*" key once.
On a SONY Ericsson phone, just press the "*" key once.
Anyways, some of the ways that I utilize this function is by typing in my account number and my password for my bank account, thus enabling me to skip the listening of the automated messages. I also have it set up on other specific automated lines, so that it enters the keystrokes to take me to a real live person. Thus, I can skip the monotonous looking back and forth at the phone, and putting it to my ear, and taking it away. I just watch the phone as it enters the tones, then when the last tone is entered, I put the phone up to my ear!!! Simple, yet effective!!!
