Bang For The Buck
Pros:Keith Richards as Sparrow's father, Everything else, Will & Swan's wedding vows, etc.
Cons:2 unfortunate deaths.
The Bottom Line: SEE THIS MOVIE!!!
I got a call from a friend telling me that he had a surprise for me. He picked me up and told me we were going to go see POTC on opening night in another state. I couldn't wait. Being a fan of the series, I had waited for this since the end of the second movie.
The movie picks up very soon after the second one left us with Captain Jack Sparrow fighting the Kraken to the death, Davy Jones convinced of Sparrow's certain death, and Captain Barbarosa taking charge of the search to bring Jack back from Davy Jones Locker. The movie begins in Singapore.
Captain Barbarosa, Miss Swan and Will Turner join forces to find a ship, a crew and the charts to the edge of the world. Having failed and been caught trying to steal a ship, Turner is bound and almost drowned by a ruthless Singapore Pirate, played by Cho Yun Fat. With the help of Sparrow's old crew under a floor, the trio manage to fight their way out of a bad situation just after the British navy shows up to spoil the party.
By chance the charts to the edge of the world were stolen in Singapore and the crew escapes with a ship just before Singapore goes up in flames. The crew, the charts, and the famed Calipso head towards uncertainty to rescue Captain Jack Sparrow for his prision in Jones' Locker.
What caught me most off guard about the film was Depp's performances talking to himself. As Sparrow has spent time in the Locker, he has begun to go further into madness, having invented an entire crew of himself, which he likes to shoot once in awhile, aboard the Black Pearl. In Jones Locker Sparrow has the one thing he's always wanted, The Pearl. Unfortunately, its the only thing he has. No water. No crew. Not even any scenery. Just Sparrow and the Black Pearl in a vastness of white, until he notices the rocks.
While the movie is over 2 hours long, its well worth the watch. The love story between Jones and Calipso is an unexpected, but endearing part of the movie, while you're heart breaks when Swan meets Bootstrap Bill, only to discover his Alzeimer's-like memory of his son, who is on his way to save his father from Jones' debt.
By far my favorite part of the movie was Will and Elizabeth's wedding. Its unconventional, unexpected, and very appropriate for their situation. I was very surprised to see Captain Barbarosa be the one to marry them off.
All in all this is a fantastic movie and a wonderful third part to the series. I am curious though about a forth movie because they spent a bit of time setting it up for a fourth movie with the temptation of....(drumroll please) The Fountain of Youth.
I recommend this for every POTC fan.
