ABSOLUTELY AGREE: Avoid Alienware (Reply to this comment)

YES! This is *exactly* what happened to me this past week, though thankfully I cancelled my order before it shipped. (Which is still a day which Alienware cannot identify, 4 weeks after paying for the machine.)
The sales staff were clueless, pretty much said anything to get me off the phone:
- website is broken, your order is almost finished
- there's a delay, we don't know why or how long
- call tomorrow for tracking number
- call next week to see if there's an update
etc...
After waiting over a month for a computer, and getting nothing but contradictory and obvioulsly untruthful replies from Alienware SALES, I decided I didn't want to take a chance on dealing with them AFTER I received the unit.
I'd rather spend a few more bucks and get a Falcon NW system.
If you don't want to believe the negative comments about Alienware, here's a test:
Send them an email message. If you get a response, then feel free to ignore my message!
I've written to them a half-dozen times, to various email addresses, and NEVER have received a reply.
AVOID.

They also now sell Alienware PCs at Best Buy.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I had been seriously considering ordering a "boutique" PC and Alienware really intrigued me. They also tout their quality and service. If greenmonkey thinks six to eight months constitutes an "era", then he is full of s***! Not only should they have sent you a part WITHOUT a deposit, they should have seriously discounted your PC because of the unnecessary wait and lack of explanation. If I had been you, I would have shipped the whole thing back. I'll be sure to warn my friends.

seems companies should be judged on their past performance as well as the present goals....
alienware is never getting my business again.

I have recently heard similar horror stories both on the net and in mag articles about Alienware's support and thoroughness, or lack thereof. It's really too bad because Alienware used to be a reliable name, with the likes of Falcon Northwest and Dell! I guess they just decided to slack over the last year or so...
They should get Sigourney Weaver back and make an Alienware movie!!
