Pros:Multiplayer, Replay, Editing, Creating, Mayham and fun!
Cons:Frustration..up the wazzoo at points.
The Bottom Line: Chuchu rocket is definately worth a very long look. Don't just try one mode try all modes before you decide to toss it aside.
No it doesn't quiet involve pokemon's lovable Pikachu though if you wanted it could. This is sega's Puzzle game named "Chu Chu Rocket" and it breaks down into some interesting categories.
The Game itself.
When I got a hold of Chuchu rocket I played it and got a strange feeling like I've played something similar before. The first thing that came to mind was lemmings. Now granted ChuChu is not like lemmings but the premise is there as your trying to guide your little mice to the saftey of your rocket ship.
It more compares to the incredible machine meets lemmings. Because in the one of the puzzle modes you just lay down your arrows and try to find the best way for your little mice to find the rocket ship without falling into holes, becoming hopelessly stranded or otherwise eaten by cats. One you beat it you move on to the next one and try to find out just how do to that.
This is where it starts to feel like incredible machine in that you have to solve the puzzle prior to pressing the botton and seeing it go.
For the other puzzle mode your leaning more toward lemmings. You have a time limit and you have to get your chu'chu's into the safety of your rocket while you play live clickly madly away and sending your arrows pointing off in all directions hoping to beat the clock and have all them cute little mice into your rocket.
These two puzzle modes are where the most frustration comes in. The answer isn't always the obvious ones and sometimes it's not a matter of moving your mice with the arrows it's a matter of moving the things that eat your mice with the arrows.
Multiplayer
Have you ever wanted your brain to explode and end up splattered on the wall for all to see? Well lemmy tell you how fast you'll have to think to out do some of your friends and even the very quick to place arrows computer seem to always have me beat when it comes to speed so in order to win I have to stick to strategy.
Multiplayer comes with a number of modes as well. Two of which you'll find is Team battle (Player 1 & 3 vs 2 & 4) and the normal everyone for themselves free frall.
"Looking for a good time sailor?"
Link up with a friend (Up to 3 others) with only one GBA and get ready for mayham! Theres basicly three types of mice you'll pick up normal mice (aww aen't they cute) 50 point mice (You really want these ones) and of course the Question mark mice (Sorta feels like russian rollette picking up these ones)
Normal mice increase your score by 1
The 50 Mouse of course increases your score by 50.
? Mouse is a deadly one in that it activates different modes like "Blindfold the winner" "Night time" "Switch places" "Mousemania" "Cat mania" "Mouse monopoly" and a list of other such events that add to the interest of the game (Sometimes add to the frustration)
Theres also cats of which can be your best friend or your worst enemy. They come in two forms The normal cat (of which eats up mice it runs into) and if it should happen into someone's rocket it takes a percetage of there points away and the mini cats which take off something like 1 point each (They are a event caused by the ? mice)
The trick multiplayer game is to have a strategy, You can try and take in as many mice as you can or you can also try to sabatage your neighbour so he gets as many cats as possible all in good fun of course. The person (Or team) With the highest score at the end wins.
Options.
This game has options like you wouldn't believe. Control options, Graphical editors to let you make your own mice and even make your own levels for multiplayer and set your handycap or oppoents handycap. Choose how the computer things "Loves Mice" "Hates Cats" "Random" ..ect
If your still wondering how you get pikachu into the game it involves drawing out your favorite pokemon using the sprite maker program that comes with ChuChu rocket so that you can replace the adorable little mouse with just about anything you want (And you could even try and make little team rocket guys to chase your pikachu around) That's about as close as this game will ever come to being pokemon.. so don't worry.
I bought this game right before a long vacation and tried it out. Playing the puzzle game I was sincerely disapointed (kinda got stuck and all) Later on I opened it up and started playing the multiplayer modes and started really really liking this game then I played against my friends (First person to 3 wins) and kicked all there butts ..of which also improved my liking of this game (It showed that you can actually get better at htis game over time)
And now I sit here very much suggesting you give Chuchu rocket a long look because theres even more game to this then I tell you. Buy it, Borrow it, Rent it you might find it's got something to offer for almost everyone! It's definately worth the look.
