Karen...
Thanks for reading! Yeah, I love my old cars...in the famous words of the famous Red Rocker, Sammy Hagar: "Trans Am / Come on, catch me if you caaaannn / Trans Am / Highway Wonderllaaaaaaaaannnnndddddd!"
As for the iceberg eyeballs and my kiddo, I'll send you a self-indulgent link to a bunch o' pictures later on. Sound good?
Nice to meet ya,
Mike

to meet you and learn more about you!
We have a lot in common! Besides being blondes and appreciating older cars.
You have the same kind of car by boyfriend has and he's restoring a GTO now. I had an older Camaro and Firebird. Wish I had them now, they'd be worth a mint.I'm looking to buy an older Vette and restore it too!..God, I'd love to find a '63 Stingray!
My son's name is Michael, so I am partial to that name!
I don't watch too much TV either, only a few shows find better things to do with my time; I love Balderdash too (thought that I was the only one with the game: Zobmondo)!
I wanna be a writer when I grow up too - working on it... always wanted to be a famous musician when I was younger, well a singer!
We have same favorite colors: red is my fave, but black is a close second
And much more!
Would love to see those iceberg blue eyes...windows to the soul and all!
Congrats on being a new daddy! And good luck with your band!
Look forward to reading more of your stuff!
Hugs,
Karen

There's nothing that bores me more than going to see a band and realizing by song #3 that everything is going to sound the same, involve the same four power chords, etc
Yes, that's right, i _did_ briefly like Linkin Park, Evanescence, and Rage Against the Machine, until i learned they'd only ever written one song apiece. Hear, hear.
Reviewing your own band is a particularly shameless use of Epinions. Works for me! Once you're up and gigging, i'm completely looking forward to you trying.
cheers,
- Brian

Heh heh...I used to be an official member of MP's Spam Club, but frankly I'm not sure if they're even using that name any more. I guess I'm too old and busy to keep up with that...
As for the band, I really do think we're going to be very good...and that's not arrogance or even cockiness. Rather, I'm just listening to the songs we've written and I simply, genuinely enjoy them so much that I have some faith that we'll at least get a decent local following. We're not trying to be overly experimental (i.e., we're not trying to usurp Radiohead or anything), but instead are writing fairly straightforward rock songs with some interesting changes. The thing that is working for us, at least in my mind, is that we're not trying to create a particular sound. If we start writing something and like it, then we're playing it, so our set will be really diverse. There's nothing that bores me more than going to see a band and realizing by song #3 that everything is going to sound the same, involve the same four power chords, etc. I feel like a lot of the bands with labels have producers pushing them into a very myopic sort of sound. We figure that we all have day jobs, and hell, we're in Houston, which is not exactly where all of the label scouts are looking anyway, so we have no intention of following fad or conventional wisdom on how to sell an album. We're just going to make music that we feel good about, and hopefully it will work out so that other people dig it too.
Ok, that diatribe is done. We've finally settled on a name: Something's Ticking. It was the most esoteric, open-ended, action-based thing we could fit into two words. We should be gigging by February. Once that is happening and we have a web site up, I'll promote our little group shamelessly.
Thanks for readin'...I'll try to perhaps write an actual review sometime in the near future...
Cheerio,
Mike

the pre-fame years (Reply to this comment)

Ah, welcome back! We need to stage more potentially-vacuous write-offs: they bring back so many of our best people. Unfortunately, due to a short-circuit in my brain, I'm not quite following your rare commands: I am instead visualizing, in your favorite-drink answer, a horde of Vikings chanting "spam spam spam spam spam". With a blender, I suppose it could work...
On the other hand, based on your actual words, you'd make a great challenge guest next time I cook chili. Meanwhile, have you told us much of anything about your band, other than that they'll be famous? Cuz we want to know, if only so that later we can tell people "They were better before Gresley got too famous to show up on Epinions".
cheers,
- Brian

Congrats on the birth of your son. My daughter was born in March, so I've been crazy busy too. Funny? I also participated in this W/O, after a relatively long absence - always willing to talk about my favorite topic....ME! Anyway, this was fun to read. When you move to your island, remember us little people.
Take Care!

Yeah, that quote has always killed me. It's amazing to me the lengths that people will go to in order to attempt to sound intelligent. If you're smart, people will be able to tell -- you won't have to try so hard. That quote is just a perfect example of what I'm talking about.
It felt good to post something, even if I haven't gotten around to doing a music review in roughly a year. I've bought plenty of tunes, that's for certain, and I have opinions on all of them...but what I don't have a lot of is that precious little commodity called time. C'est la vie, eh?
Thanks for readin',

Take care~

Marcy! I have missed you too, darlin'. And don't think that I've forgotten that I owe you an e-mail...I've just been a lazy bastard about it lately. I've got lots of stuff to catch up on.
And don't tease me with those spankings. I'm at work. They make me wear pants.

Yeah, being a Dad is keeping me on my toes. Plus, I'm fronting a new band in Houston, so all of my creative energy has been going into writing music. We're hoping to be gigging around town starting in February. I will, of course, let people know how it goes...I'll shamelessly pimp our name once we have a web site up and everything. I have a good vibe about this band...
Thanks for readin'...
Cheers,
Grez

Hey, nice to hear from y'all again...
...well, they make that particular dressing at my favorite bar across the street from where I work. They make it from scratch, and it is magic stuff, let me tell you. I'm still trying to get them to give up the recipe to me...
