Oh my, I didn't know I had a choice of destinations. Scotland might be nice...one of my ancestors came from there. The granola bars were so I wouldn't be hungry and they require no cooking; the down jacket because I hate to be cold, they don't weigh much and can be used as a pillow; and the comfortable shoes so that I can enjoy my travels and adventure in the 12th century. Actually, these items were things I chose to take when I walked across the Grand Canyon...except a ranger persuaded me to not take the down jacket because it was July....and I nearly froze to death when we were caught part way up the North Kaibab Trail when night fell. I will ALWAYS take a down jacket, no matter where I may go from now on. Even though I have lived in Florida for twenty years, I still have a down coat, three down jackets and two down comforters. I will not get rid of any of them. You never know.

Re: I really enjoyed reading this! 12th century: where? (Reply to this comment)
by aohcapablanca
Patsy certainly wants us, her fans, to want to know more about her. Her answers should be paragraphs not zingers!

Consider her answer to the question

"10. You are leaving tomorrow for a 6-week stay in the 12th century. What do you pack?

......Granola bars, down jacket, comfortable shoes."
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=

Let's guess what part of the world Patsy has in mind:

-- granola bars: someplace where sugar is scarce/unknown or she doesn't like honey or mead ******

-- down jacket: she expects to be COLD *****

-- comfortable shoes: Patsy expects to land somewhere where shoes are scarce, handmade, expensive or uncomfortable.

Now where, Gael, do you think Patsy wants to go. Will you add to my two guesses?

--(1) Coimbra, Portugal

and/or

-- (2) Edinburgh, Scotland.

Over to you.

Let the game go on!

Dear Patsy,

Thanks for flagging

Re: white margarine, orange dye (Reply to this comment)
by patsyv
Oh Yes....it was awful. It was my understanding that the white margarine was sold with the dye capsules in order to protect the butter industry. But Illinois was one of the states with this white margarine law, while in Wisconsin, a big butter producing state, you could buy yellow margarine.

Dear Patsy,

You write elsewhere

"The 40s were WW II, rationing (meat, butter, sugar, shoes, gasoline."

Do you also recall the white margarine that you broke orange dye into?

Re: ants, pythons, giant rats (Reply to this comment)

I saw a python in my yard last year. It was about five feet long and as round as my arm. I haven't seen it since, but kept a close eye on my dog for several weeks. A couple of weeks age the fire ants got to me while I was repairing a screen in my back yard. I don't know why I didn't notice it at the time, but was very involved with prying staples out of the screen. The next day my left foot was red, very swollen, hot and itchy. Of course it was Saturday afternoon with no medical help available (not even two neighbors who were nurses), so I did what I could without resorting to the emergency room and a possible five hour wait. I found some antibiotics left over from some dental work, and took them for the next week. Monday arrived and the foot looked somewhat better, so I just continued with the antibiotics, which eventually resolved the situation. However, perhaps the ants kept the python from staying....and so far I have seen no giant rats.

ants, pythons, giant rats (Reply to this comment)

Dear Patsyv,

I am still waiting for an answer to my comment about ants.

You had written:

"11. Name something small that really annoys you.

........Ants, I’m allergic to them."

As I read about the exotic invaders of Florida,
pythons and three-foot long rats,

I wonder if your dreaded ants may not be your last line of defense.

Cordially,

Re: How are your cars, six years later? (Reply to this comment)

I still have a twelve year old Saturn 4 door sedan (only 56,625 miles and just had AAA install a new battery) and a sixteen year old Ford minivan (which I haven't driven for over three years). I'm still considering getting rid of the minivan and getting a motorcycle as a back-up vehicle, but I'm not sure at my age that I could manage one. Besides, I store my hurricane panels in the Ford, and I really don't have any other place to keep the panels. Problems, problems.....

It's 2010: your cars are now 27 and 16. Still have them? How do they run?

Any dangerous ant bites lately?

Live long and prosper!

How badly allergic?

Aren't fire ants a MAJOR problem where you live?

Re: How are your antique autos faring? (Reply to this comment)

I have an eleven year old Saturn 4 door sedan (only 55,000 miles) and a fifteen year old Ford minivan (which I haven't driven for over two years). I'm considering getting rid of the minivan and getting a motorcycle as a back-up vehicle. Where I live, it is vital that one has transportation or else one starves. An electric car would be nice, but I don't think much of rechargeable batteries. I keep having to buy new Roombas because the batteries fail. Ditto for B&D Dustbusters.

How old are your current cars in 2009?

Do you still have the same ones? What models?

What do you think of hybrids? All electrics?

Loved the answers! Thanks for being the first vict .. er.. make that "entrant" in this Completely Normal Write-Off for Completely Normal People.

What's wrong with World Peace? Well, that would put a lot of reporters and weapons manufacturers out of work, and leave lots of politicians with nothing to campaign about. Not to mention all of those beauty contestants who would then have nothing to say during their interviews. Can't have that, now can we? ;-}
