I'll break it down chronologically- choosing the mattress I wanted was fairly easy- beds can be compared easily via a grid that allows comparisons of features between their mattresses. I used this to narrow down my choices and make my final selection. Of course, comparing prices between sellers is more of a chore. Sellers use different names for basically the same mattresses. It gave me a headache and, in the end, I have no idea if I got the best price. Here in my town, there are tv ads for super half off sales almost every day. I got to the point where I just picked a ceiling price that I would pay and found what I thought was the best mattress for me within that price limit.
Once I made my selection, the online ordering process was almost too easy. I've never handed over so much money with such little difficulty! I had completed the purchase in only minutes, and I never once had to deal with some overzealous salesperson following me around the showroom. Online buying is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
Very quickly I received an email confirmation. The very next day, I received a call from a rep that needed a personal verification due to the fact that my billing/shipping addresses differed. I appreciated this security check. It also turned out that I needed to discuss my purchase method (I was using a debit card which had a limit below the cost of the mattress). When I explained my concern that the payment might not clear, she connected me to some other rep who assured me they could break the payment down into smaller ones over a few days or do whatever was necessary, including waiting for a check or money order payment. This person also gave me info on how I could temporarily increase my debit limit. I didn't know I could do this. And I did do that and it worked. Oh yes, now I know how to make all kinds of big-ticket purchases with my debit card! But they were helpful and friendly. That counts in my book. Knowing there are real people at the company reassured me. It was now not just some abstract web-site to which I had willingly handed my money, with crossed fingers...
Here is where my only (mildly) negative comment occurs- it took almost a month to receive my mattress! Now, being that shipping is free (though I'm sure that "free" is somehow included in the sale's price anyway), I can't complain too much. But if I had paid another one or two hundred bucks for shipping, I would have been quite peeved. US-Mattress did keep me updated via email, as did the shipper. So at least it wasn't as if I had just been forgotten and left in the dark to wonder where my mattress had gone to.
The shipper also had a website where I could track the (very slow) progress of my bed. At least I knew where my mattress was sleeping every night as I slept in the ditch of my old bed. I could see she was making her way to me and that gave me better dreams. If you think snails are slow, you should observe how slowly mattresses travel! Apparently, mobility is one of their weak points.
Finally, my mattress arrived. The shipper called ahead to schedule delivery and then called on the day to say they were 15 to 30 minutes away. I was so excited! I got all fixed up and waited outside. I felt as if I were about to go on a blind-date!!! The shippers arrived and were very courteous and did all the heavy lifting. They brought the bed into the garage (as far as I wanted them to go) and I'm sure they would have brought everything into the bedroom if I had asked. To my surprise, the mattress and box-spring included a frame with it. I don't remember this being mentioned when I purchased it. And to think I almost bought a high-quality frame for about one hundred dollars prior to delivery! I'm glad I waited. And I shouldn't fail to mention- the frame was very heavy-duty. Certainly as good, if not better than the ones I shopped for.
The product (conclusion): the mattress, box-spring, and frame each came in undamaged, good quality cardboard boxes. The shippers stated that usually the mattresses come just wrapped in plastic. They kindly cut open the boxes and gave me time to inspect my bed. Both the mattress and the box-spring were wrapped in very durable plastic and both had not a single blemish. Even the plastic and cardboard boxes were in perfect condition. I gave them the thumbs-up and they removed all the boxes and plastic and got out of my way so that I could have an intimate moment with my new.... uh... bed.
The hard-steel frame was way too easy to assemble. The box-spring was very well-crafted and fit the frame perfectly. The incredibly lush and thick mattress (much lighter than I expected) completed the package and also fit like a glove to the box-spring. I could wait no more and with no sheets yet fitted to her; I jumped upon her naked pillow-top body. WOW! And I too fit like a glove. I was swallowed whole and it was love at first night.
I could go on, but she's calling me back to bed. By the way, I slept on my new bed almost immediately for several hours and it was heavenly. It cost me an arm and a leg, but the other arm and leg were so comfortable- no aches, no pains, no need to flip from side to side. Just sweet dreams.
If I had need of another bed tomorrow, I wouldn't hesitate to shop with US-mattress again. I wish price comparing could be more straight forward (but really, you pretty much have to be willing to spend at least a grand for a quality bed, no matter the brand or style), and I certainly could have used my mattress about 2 weeks earlier than it arrived, but overall, it was a good experience and I can recommend this company without hesitation. Some things really are worth the wait. We all need better sleep and more patience. Beds are not fast food. Anyway, that's what I have to say about US-Mattress and MY Mattress... So sweet dreams to you too.
