Adult Circumcision is no picnic!

The Bottom Line Given a choice, I would much rather have been circumcised at birth than as an adult!
I am a Jewish man who immigrated to US from the former Soviet Union when I was 14 years old. Since we did not have any relatives in the US, we were "adopted" at first by the Jewish community of the city we immigrated to, and they were wonderful in helping us to adapt to our new life. Of course, being the Jewish community, they also strived to impart some of the religious aspects of the Jewish culture on us, the part of being a Jew that was largely denied to us in the Soviet Union.
I was not circumcised when I came to the US, but I wanted to fit in with my new Jewish friends, so I agreed to the procedure when I was 15. It went as well as could be expected. There were no complications, but there was a considerable amount of pain and discomfort for the following few weeks. It also took a bit of time to adjust to the the way it felt when I finally healed.
My wife and I are expecting a baby boy in May, and we are going to perform the circumcision on him, not only for the religious and cultural purposes, but also because I have had an experience as an adult of having both a "natural" penis and a circumcised one, and I definitely feel more comfortable from the hygienic point of view since I had the circumcision. I would not want my son to go through the pain and discomfort that he will have to remember for the rest of his life if I leave him to make this choice as an adult. I am sure that he will understand why my wife and I made this decision for him.
