Orange Scent in the Office -- Antibacterial Spray by Mr. Clean
Written: Jun 06 '07
Pros:cleans glass well, doesn't streak, pleasant scent
Cons:may cause skin reaction, doesn't clean all things well, read the warnings
The Bottom Line: An average cleaner that has more cons than pros.
Cruising along the grocery store aisles, I looked for a cleaner that matched a coupon in my hand. I was purchasing it for the office and wanted a good cleaner at a decent price. Juggling coupons, I determined that the Mr. Clean Multi-Surfaces Antibacterial Spray (Orange Scent) was the best value. Into the cart it went!
Description
The plastic bottle is noticeable on the shelf with its bright orange squirt-head nozzle. The image of Mr. Clean, cross-armed and looking determined to clean every germ in sight, is featured prominently on the front label.
This bottle holds 32 fluid ounces, and the liquid has the scent of oranges. It is also an antibacterial product that is advertised to clean glass, cut grease and kill germs.
My Experiences
This cleaner is easy to use. Just twist the nozzle cap to open the nozzle, aim the bottle, and press the lever to spray the cleaner. The back of the bottle is filled with instructions and warnings. The instructions state to spray 6-8 inches away from the surface and wipe with a dry paper towel or lint-free cloth. And
dont inhale the spray. I didnt know that when I purchased it! Also, there is a difference between sanitize and disinfect. To sanitize a surface, let the liquid stand for 5 minutes before wiping it clean. To disinfect a surface, let the liquid stand 10 minutes before wiping.
The spray comes out orange and has a citrus scent. One of my fellow employees strolled through the office after a spot cleaning and said, Whos eating Fruit Loops? The scent of this cleaner lingers in the air for awhile after use.
I have cleaned many surfaces around the office using this Mr. Clean spray. It does an excellent job at cleaning the glass plate on the photocopier. It also cleans other surfaces well. Ive used it on metal, plastic and wood (inexpensive bookshelves). Removing surface dirt and dust is a cinch. However, this cleaner will not eradicate pen or ink. Someone had accidentally scraped a blue ballpoint pen across the plastic on the fax machine and photocopier, and this cleaner would not remove it. There was also a red ink spill near the postage meter, and this cleaner refused to budge the stain. I cant say how it works on grease since this is an office environment. However, the cleaner is excellent at removing fingerprints and smudge marks from electrical switches.
After using the cleaner for the first time, I was dismayed to read on the back of the bottle to rinse the skin immediately with water for 15 to 20 minutes if the spray comes into contact with the skin. Yikes! I dont wear plastic gloves when using spray cleaners, and this Mr. Clean spray does leave my hands red in spots and the skin feels dry after using it. (I keep forgetting to buy a pair of cleaning gloves.)
Note that the manufacturer says this cleaner is safe on most washable surfaces. However, it is wise to test a small area of any painted surface or wall covering before using this cleaner. Also, if applied to aluminum, immediately wipe the surface dry. And repeated use on copper or brass could permanently discolor the metal.
If using this product on surfaces where food will be placed, make sure to rinse the surface after using this product. Being in an office environment, I dont have to worry about that at least.

Im thinking I should not have purchased this cleaner. Here are the warnings on the bottle:

Purchasing
I bought this at my local grocery store for $2.29 after using a $1.00 coupon.
Summary
I am regretting that I purchased this product. It doesnt clean everything as well as I would wish. Its an average cleaner. Plus the liquid irritates my hands and makes them feel dry. I wont be purchasing this again.
I hope you found this review useful.
