The Cuisine of Veneto - A Mixed Culinary Palette
by lyagushka | Feb 29 '04
Veneto's cuisine has less pizazz than those of some other regions of Italy. But there are still riches worth exploring.

Yeah, the Italians have some great wines. It's amazing how low the quality of some of the stuff they export is! I guess they figure ignorant Americans mostly won't know any better. We even had some Asti Spumante in Emilia-Romagna a few years ago that was drinkable. They do the same thing with their olive oils. Bastards. I don't know how it happens that they've got the best of everything. Life is so manifestly unfair sometimes.

Italy really is the best...*sigh*

Glad you enjoyed the review.

Claudia, now you know why we sneak off to Italy for long weekends when we can get the cheapie Ryanair tickets. Please let me know how you like the fregolota if you make it!

cheers,

Fantastic review for everything; I particulary enjoyed reading about the alcoholic beverages: it confirmed my sense that the fantastic local wines, usually sold for a pittance in Italy, are often not exported (except, perhaps, for sale at exorbitant prices.) Also loved the mentions of grappa (which I really like.) This is making me want to go back to Italy, to eat and drink!

Yeah, those Belini's sure were nice, weren't they? Even on a chilly winter's night I liked them. I can't imagine how perfect they could be on a sweltering summer evening, just as the sun is setting. Prego!

I didn't know there was such a thing as instant polenta! See what you can learn here at epinions? Thanks for commenting.

In that case, you're a woman after my own heart, Peggy. I love to eat too, and I think that's why Italy is my favorite destination in Europe. Thanks for letting me know you liked the review.

best,
