The Warped Doc's Favorite 10 Bloodsuckers

The Bottom Line The Bottom Line has no reflection..
I do so adore making lists. They're a pain in the rear end because there are so many movies that probably deserve to be in the top ten, and it takes me forever to narrow it down. As usual, I've switched this one around countless times before settling on what you see here.
I've purposely left off the classic Dracula flicks with Bela Lugosi, et al. I figure those are a given. So you should just assume that this list falls under those. heh.
Here, then, in no particular order....
Fearless Vampire Killers (or: Pardon Me But Your Fangs Are In My Neck)
Ok. Yes it's cheesy as all hell. I went and saw this camp Vampire flick at the theater when it was released in 1967.. I was all of 10 yrs old and I laughed my butt off! This, I said, would be my favorite movie of all time. Well almost 40 years later it's been knocked off that prestigious slot, but it's still very high on my list of favorites. Roman Polanski is responsible for this horror/comedy, and even has a part in it as the clumsy assistant. Just priceless. Oh. Plot? Umm these dudes go to a remote castle with the intention of slaying vampires. Hilarity ensues. (Man, I need to write a full review on this one so bad...)
Shadow of the Vampire
John Malkovich, Willem Dafoe, and Cary Elwes. What a cast! There was never any doubt in my mind that nothing could unseat this fave from the top ten list. This one is about the filming of Nosferatu and is just inspired. Very creepy and ingenius.
Immortality (aka The Wisdom of Crocodiles)
Jude Law as a really hot guy who happens to need blood to survive. Not your typical Vampire flick by any means, but awesome in it's warped kinda way. Besides, Jude Law gets Nekkid!
John Carpenter's Vampires
A vengeful vampire hunter must retrieve a cross before it falls into the hands of the undead, that could produce dire consequences for humanity (IMDB.com). James Woods & Daniel Baldwin. Well done and very entertaining.
Dark Prince: The True Story of Dracula
Vlad may not have been a real nice guy, what with all impaling folks alive on large sticks and what not, but he was Romania's hero.. and remains so to this day. We see him as a monster when we look back on his life, they see it an entirely different way. At any rate, this is one account of his life and times. Peter Weller, Roger Daltrey, and Rudolf Martin.
The Lost Boys
Oh man. Keifer Sutherland with fangs. Be still my beating heart! A family moves to a new town and the boys grow to suspect there be real vampires afoot... also stars the Coreys (Haim and Feldman), Jason Patric, and Dianne Wiest.
Van Helsing
Stephen Sommers (writer/director) decided to take several of our favorite childhood creature features and meld them together. I must say that it worked for me. We have Frankenstein's Monster, A brief bit with Jeckyl/Hyde, the anticipated Dracula and his wives, and werewolves. Oh my! In this version, Van Helsing is serving a secret sect of the catholic church by going around doing away with evil creatures like only he can. The twist here, really, is that Van Helsing has amnesia and has no idea who he really is... Camp and schlocky, but oh so entertaining!
Dracula 2000
In this tale of the voracious vampire, Van Helsing has ol' Dracula all locked up in a vast safe with tons of safeguards to keep him from walking the Earth ever again. He doesn't trust anyone else to be guarding such a treasure though, so he sifts Drac's blood through leeches (eww) and uses it to keep himself alive. Along the way he apparently sired a daughter who now has the count's blood in her (yeah yeah I know) and Drac is drawn to one of his own kind.. a born vampire rather than a made one. Once some bumbling fools try to rob the safe and inadvertantly cut him loose, the game is on. Gerard Butler and Christopher Plummer.
From Dusk Till Dawn
The film that introduced me to Tarantino's warped brain. A group of travelers end up in a Mexican bar that has some seriously crazy stuff happenin after sundown. This one is just loads of fun. Harvey Keitel, George Clooney, Juliette Lewis, Salma Hayek, Cheech Marin.
The Last Man on Earth
Seems some of the dead have come back to life. Now, I gotta tell ya that these were closer to zombies in look and movement... but the movie says Vampires, and there's the whole wooden stake and garlic thang happening, so who am I to judge? heh. Even with that one bit of weirdness, this is a great movie. Besides, it's Vincent Price, dude.
