3dfx (Reply to this comment)

I'll admit I was a bit torn on how to rate this review. I happen to also be the proud owner of a Voodoo 5 5500 and it has truly served me well for almost a year since I bought it. But although I've had no real complaints of it to speak of, and pretty much everything in your review is factually accurate, I honestly could not recommend this card to anyone today, no matter how cheap the price.
My main reason for such a harsh stance against the V5 is that 3dfx no longer exists, now that nVidia has bought them out. That makes future tech support and warranty support sketchy at best, not to mention the fact that new drivers will no longer be developed for the V5 (and thus may not support DirectX 8 only games in the future).
And although it's still a good overall performer in my favorite games (Unreal Tournament, Deus Ex) I've got to admit that compared to "modern" graphics cards it's really not what it used to be. Even the baseline Geforce 2 GTS, for example (which can be found as cheap as $90 these days) can outperform the V5 significantly, while also benefiting from continuous driver updates.
Anyway I'd certainly like to hear your thoughts, and if you decide to revise this review in the future I would be happy to re-rate as necessary.
