No 'Allez enfant'?... (Reply to this comment)

I was kind of surprised not to see 'Allez enfant' included in such a list. Haven't you viewed it - or don't you share my appreciation of it as a master achievement? Well, I'm about to find out as I'm moving to your '50th REVIEW BONBON BASH!'

In any case, a most interesting compilation, although I haven't seen all of them, to be sure.

Yes, the Tim Drum is an excellent film. I have it in my collection and will review it sometime in the weeks ahead. I might take on Aguirre and The Three Penny Opera as well. I did recently get to Stalingrad.

but I am disappointed that the Tin Drum did not make it. Please expand your excellent reviews to it and other German language works!

I'd never previously heard of "Mostly Martha." I note that it's a German film. I'm afraid I rather neglected the German film contributions -- not having included a single one in my list. Thanks for the tip on "Mostly Martha."

Thanks for the supportive comment as well as the suggestions. I haven't yet seen Eat Drink Man Woman, although I've read of it and have it in my mind to see. Your endorsement of it pushes it further to the front. I've seen Belle de Jour and agree that it is very worthwhile. Catherine Deneuve is indeed "belle" and talented as well. She's also delightful in "Umbrellas of Cherbourg", a uniquely charming film entirely in recitative. Has anyone seen her in any other films, such as "Tristana" or "Repulsion"? Are any of her other films worthy of recommendation?

Interesting list, but I would have included Mostly Martha, and The Umbrellas of Cherbourg. Best wishes. Sheila

Some of these films are among my favorites. If you like foreign films, you might like Belle de Jour or Eat Drink Man Woman.

Once again, great list! :)
