| klaxonman's Full Review: Dell Dimension 8100 Series |
Despite the brand name, the seemingly fair price, and the bonus deals the Dell offers, Dell's best desktop series, the 8100, is not worth the money. In purchasing this system you will likely spend around $2000. With Dell's constant use of special offers you might even get a free printer or camera or something of that nature. Yet the computer itself is just not worth it. Dell's intent with the 8100 series is to provide a fast, powerful computer for gaming and/or multimedia users. If this is an activity you use your computer for, I recommend spending the money elsewhere. You may have to spend an extra couple hundred dollars to get a top of the line system like the 8100 series supposedly is, yet you will be far more satisfied. This computer is fine for internet use and word processing, and the free printer is nice... yet... I purchased the top of the line machine in order to enjoy gaming and multimedia as well. Unfortunately, the computer is overloaded with worthless software, it has a tendency of crashing, and is simply not powerful enough. Despite the 1.7 ghz processor and 256 mb ram, which I thought would suffice for atleast a year or two, Is already encountering problems with some of today's games. I couldn't tell you what other company to look for for your gaming/multimedia needs, but I do know that Dell is a company you should stay away from. Perhaps I have had a rare bad experience... Read the other reviews if Dell is at the top of your list or you want to save an extra couple hundred bucks. I hope my experience with Dell has influenced your decision.
