Hi Daniel. Your reviews always make me giggle...and think. I can't get myself psyched up to see American Splendor, but I'll feel like I've let you down if I don't. So I will.

But Bend it Like Beckham was so cute!

Fantastic list here. I, too, loved American Splendor. It was so refreshing.

You put in some movies that I've yet to hear of...unfortunately with the baby we don't get to the theatre much...or to Blockbuster or even stay up long enough to enjoy PayperView.

Thanks for letting me know what I'm missing!!!

Nice job! Suzanne

Superb write up.

I disagree strongly with a few choices (COLD MOUNTAIN and IN AMERICA !!!!), but life would be very very dull if everyone agreed on everything all the time.

Thanks,

Chris J.

I like your list, Dan, especially your choice of a documentary for numero uno.

Well done.

Howdy John,

As I said: Bad Dan when it comes to foreign films. It's my personal shame that when it gets to be Oscar season I rush out and see all the over-hyped largely mediocre award-bait pictures, but when something is out there and it's foreign and extremely well regarded (like, say, Etre et Avoir), I get pointlessly reticent. I try catching up with those flicks on DVD, but even then I get bogged down by, say, the two or three Billy Wilder films I haven't seen, or a Hitchcock film that somehow slipped through the cracks.

I did, indeed, enjoy Bill Murray's acceptance at the Globes, but I would have liked it even more if he'd decided to thank his co-star. That was a pretty big miss in my book...

I'll be looking forward to your "Best Of" list one of these days...

Thanks for the nice words...

Did you happen to catch "Etre et Avoir" (To Be and to Have)? That's up there in my top five this year. In fact, it was a great year all around for documentaries-- I certainly applaud your positioning of Fog of War... Glad to see In America tugging at your heart, as well... As you know, I was fairly bowled over by the film-- and I've also got a keen radar for the old ham--fisted treacle.

So-- I gather, like me, you were delighted both by Murray's Golden Globe win and speech? Yes.

--Well recapped, lion.

Jan...

Go out and see some of these movies, darnit!!! They're good. At least go see Lost in Translation and In America... And Return of the King... And Raising Victor Vargas... And American Splendor... I'm not going to ask you to see Cold Mountain or Gerry...

Thanks for the visit!...

I'm into the Black Dahlia flick because DePalma's directing it, which seems like an appropriate and fun combination with the source material, Ellroy's most shattering book. Fincher would have been a better director for the material, but that might have been too predictable.

And your list is *longer*? Dear Lord. Do you have any idea of how long this is? It's like 20 double spaced pages (written, I should emphasize, in one coffee-fueled morning)...

Fortunately, I have a couple more sections that I hope to eventually add (including one explaining why I don't mention Finding Nemo, Master and Commander, Seabiscuit, Monster and 21 Grams at all)...

Thanks for dropping by!

Little wonder he was in Cannes Man if he's not good with plots, hehe. You'd enjoy it. I haven't seen a single movie on your list, but was amused at your defense of The Hulk. I liked Nolte too.

Excellent List... (Reply to this comment)

Nighy was the only guy in "Love Actually" that ruled in that movie for me. Wood did deserve that Golden Globe nod and her to beat Scarlett Johansson in your list is pretty damn noteworthy (and I'm disappointed that neither got Oscar nods, damn you Diane Keaton and your boobies). At least she's got a few more movies to do. I bet you heard about her being in "The Black Dahalia" and I'm really hope that Miss Gyllenhaal signs on to play the starlet. The dream would come true!! By the way, my list is longer than yours.
