| cmaw63's Full Review: The Beast Speed Boat |
Want a tour of the New York harbor, but short on time? Do you feel the need for speed? Then The Beast Speed Boat is what you're looking for!
The Beast Info
Captain Mad Dog and first mate Big Daddy will take you on a 30 minute, 45 to 50 mph, thrill ride that loops the Statue of Liberty then heads back to Pier 83. Located at West 42nd Street & 12th Avenue, Pier 83, it is easy to find the Circle Line Sightseeing building to purchase tickets. You can't miss the huge lettering on the side of their building. You can't miss The Beast either. It's the huge speed boat with large teeth circling the front of it.
$17 for adults and $11 for kids 12 and under is a decent price to pay for this ride. I was able to fast track past the ticket line thanks to my New York Pass that I purchased at VISITicket.com. I did notice that the ticket line moved quickly and those that were there made it onto the boat I was on.
Weather permitting, The Beast Speed Boat leaves daily on the hour from noon until dusk, May through September and on weekends in October.
You must be at least 40" / 100cm tall to ride The Beast Speed Boat. If you are pregnant, have/had a back injury, in ill health, or not a thrill seeker you are asked to leave the boat. This 30 minute, bumpy, water experience isn't for the faint hearted.
Wow!
My sister and I experienced a lot of New York's attractions this week. This was my favorite! Captain Mad Dog and Big Daddy were tons of fun and knew what they were doing. I never once felt that Captain Mad Dog wasn't in complete control of The Beast. I have experience riding in speed boats and know what is safe and what isn't. Captain Mad Dog gave us speed, wave jumping, and turns with an expertise I was very comfortable with. Big Daddy kept the ride amusing with his antics that included water balloons and water guns. Their good natured joking was hilarious!
Captain Mad Dog pulled up next to a rival boat, The Shark, and everyone exchanged good natured ribbing back and forth that included a small water fight.
Big Daddy made himself available to take photographs with our cameras. How he took good pictures on this moving thrill ride is beyond me. My sister and I have a nice picture of our hair blowing in the wind, water spraying, and the New York skyline behind us.
Once we reached the Statue of Liberty, Captain Mad Dog stopped The Beast and gave us all time to move around and take pictures. Then we took off again leaving other boats to eat our dust...ummm water spray.
As with every attraction, fellow tourists can make or break a good time. We were lucky enough to be in the midst of a group of young teenage girls and their chaperones that were fun to be with. We found out they are a group that is involved in the "Happy Hands Club" from the movie Napoleon Dynamite. They danced in their seats and signed the words to the songs that blasted from the speakers as we blasted across the New York harbor.
Just Do It!
If you visit New York City this is one attraction that I recommend you try. Yes, you get wet. Yes, it's bumpy. Yes, it's fast. Most of all, yes, it's great fun!
