I have been a member of the eBay community since November of 1998. I was mostly a buyer, but after I built up a lot of positive feedback, I started selling stuff too.
It is very easy to become a member to buy, but I believe if you register to sell now, they require a credit card or bank account. You get to pick out an id to use, I recommend not using your email address as your id, I have gotten some bad email from people when I had used my email address as my id at first.
It is easy to place a bid on an auction once you have an account there. Now they also have a buy it now option that some people put on their auctions, I really like this when the BIN price is a good one. If you are the successful high bidder you usually hear from the seller by the next day and you can proceed with your transaction.
It is also fairly easy to sell once you have figured out how to do it. I guess I had the most trouble with adding pictures to my auctions. I use photopoint and once I found out how to add the picture link to my auction it was easy. It is time consuming though if you put a lot of detail in your description. I sell mostly clothes and kid stuff so I do try to give a lot of detail. I think the costs to list auction are fairly reasonable, I don't mind the listing fee,and I don't use any of the extras they offer like bold type,putting your auction in the gallery or featured auction, I wish the final auction value fee wasn't as much as it is. I would say I have had 95% of good ebay buyers on my auctions.
I guess my pet peeve of ebay is buyers and sellers who don't leave feedback. I leave feedback for all auctions whether I am the buyer or seller. My other feedback pet peeve is that you can only get one positive from an individual seller. Say I win 6 auctions from a seller, she can leave me 6 + feedback but it will only count as one. I think if I did 6 great transactions with the same person I should get 6 + feedback.
